Job Description

Your CareerShiftLeft is building the cloud security platform for developers (AppSec). Our platform empowers teams to find, fix, and prevent security risks in application code and infrastructure as code through automation and security-as-code principles. We're looking for a skilled Principal Backend Engineer to join our team and contribute to our Cortex Cloud platform.As a Principal Backend Engineer, you'll have a high-impact role in shaping the future of our code security products. Beyond building robust and scalable backend features, you'll help drive performance, reliability, and innovation across our systems. Our group owns and leads the department's data pipelines, databases, and enrichment and persistence flows. If you're excited by technical challenges, meaningful ownership, and making life easier for developers - this is the place for you.Your Impact Own complex backend features from concept to production, directly shaping the core infrastructure and services of this critical security offering.Build and optimize scalable systems: Ensure performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency across distributed systems through thoughtful design, deep observability, and continuous optimizationPartner with product managers, architects, and engineers to deliver impactful, high-quality security solutions to our customers.Continuously evaluate and adopt new tools and technologies to improve development velocity and enhance the capabilities of our product.Be an advocate for clean code, scalable architecture, and strong engineering practices.

Qualifications (Additional Job Description)

Your Experience7+ years of experience in backend development, with a strong foundation in designing and maintaining scalable systems2+ years of hands-on experience with TypeScript and Node.js in production environments.Experience working with databases such as BigQuery, MongoDB, or relational SQL systemsExperience with cloud infrastructure (preferably GCP) and cloud-native architecturesA self-driven,independent, leader and fast learner with a proactive approach to solving problemsExperience with high scale production systemsExcellent collaboration and communication skills with team members and product team Advantage:Experience developing security-related products, especially in the code analysis or AppSec domainBachelor's degree or equivalent military experience requiredCI/CD methodologies and relevant tools (such as Jenkins, Github actions, CircleCI)Orchestrated and managed containerized applications using Kubernetes, including deployment, scaling, and self-healing of microservices
