Job Summary

Your Career:
Palo Alto Networks is seeking an experienced Backend & AI Engineer to join our Cortex engineering group, focusing on Cortex XSOAR, Cortex XSIAM, and next-generation AI solutions. In this role, you will contribute to the implementation and ongoing maintenance of robust backend services that power our leading-edge security orchestration, automation, and response platforms.

Your Impact:

• Innovate with AI: Work alongside senior mentors to design and implement AI-based solutions for internal workflows and external product features, leveraging modern frameworks to solve complex security challenges.
• Drive the Lifecycle: Participate in the full development lifecycle of backend services - from initial design and coding to testing, deployment, and maintenance - ensuring high performance and scalability.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to align on product integrations and contribute to high-quality code through peer reviews and collaborative design sessions.
• Maintain a production-oriented mindset, helping to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize services to ensure platform reliability for our global customers.
• Mentorship & Growth: Work directly with Principal Engineers to level up your architectural thinking, coding standards, and technical leadership skills.

• 2-3 years of professional software engineering experience, with a focus on building server-side applications using Go, Python, or Java.
• Practical AI development experience and curiosity: hands-on experience building or integrating AI capabilities, whether for personal projects or as part of your day-to-day role. You should have experience engaging with AI as a developer (e.g., working with LLM APIs, prompt engineering, RAG implementations, or AI frameworks), rather than solely as an end user.
• Backend Fundamentals: Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, database technologies (SQL/NoSQL), and software design patterns.
• A proactive approach to troubleshooting and a desire to maintain high-availability services.

• Experience with cloud-native environments (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
• Familiarity with high-scale, distributed systems and performance tuning.
• Exposure to containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
