Position Overview:
Perform analysis, design, or test of one or more moderately complex materials (including energetics), structural components, and control systems for propulsion systems. Apply engineering principles, industry standards, company standards and customer requirements to develop propulsion systems (electric, solid/liquid fuel rocket, air-breathing, thrusters) for application in launch vehicles, missile systems, and space mission systems. Coordinate strategy for developing and leveraging multi-disciplinary design, optimization, and analysis processes to support mission requirements. Define and coordinate the conduct of testing required to evaluate design work.
Essential Functions:
Analysis model formulation and FEA or CFD solution using Abaqus or Fluent
Providing technical assessments of results and giving design guidance with specialized knowledge of mechanics of materials for orthotropic, hyperelastic, and visocelastic materials
Reporting of analysis results in written and oral formats
Peer reviewing of other analysts work products, including efforts at other corporate business locations
Conduct trade studies and evaluate alternative designs
Determine engineering tasks required for project planning and execution; Analyze project requirements and develop detailed planning, conceptual designs, and risk analysis
Interact with internal and external customers; Assist the customer in defining system requirements and in the generation of specifications for products or sub systems
Develop and present materials for project related briefings including design reviews to be given to internal and external customers
Travel up to 10% of the time to supplier, test facilities, and launch facilities
This requisition may be filled at either an Associate Engineer 1 or Engineer 2

Basic Qualifications
Associate Engineer Propulsion 1
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 0 years of related engineering experience
Some knowledge of CAD modeling and finite element analysis programs, Abaqus preferred
Oral and written communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment as part of a multi-discipline team
Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security clearance
Engineer Propulsion 2
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 2 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in STEM with 0 years of related engineering experience,
Some experience with FEA or CFD programs (Abaqus or Fluent preferred)
Oral and written communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment as part of a multi-discipline team
Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Active DoD Secret security clearance, or higher
Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree
Experience with MATLAB, VBA, Fortran, and/or Python
Working knowledge of composite materials
Working knowledge of steady state and transient dynamic analysis
Working knowledge of viscoelastic and hyperelastic material modeling
Proficiency with Siemens NX
Script writing, workflow automation
Previous experience in aerospace manufacturing facility
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a team

Primary Level Salary Range: $65,800.00 - $98,800.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
