Armament Systems is a leading supplier of integrated medium-caliber weapon systems for land, air and sea platforms through its world-renowned Bushmaster® line of automatic cannons produced at its Mesa, Arizona facility.
Role Description:
This position is a senior engineering leadership role in the Medium Caliber Gun Systems Group within Northrop Grumman Defense Systems. As a leader in Guns Engineering, the Systems Chief Engineer is responsible for the technical excellence of all medium caliber product lines and drives execution of development programs and well as supporting production and customers. This position is located in Mesa, Arizona.
Responsibilities
This position carries the following set of primary responsibilities:
Reports to the head of engineering at the Mesa Arizona site and is responsible for the technical excellence of the medium caliber guns systems product lines
Provides outstanding leadership on development programs including resolving highly complex technical problems
Is the final engineering technical authority for assigned products
Ensures pertinent design factors such as contractual, environmental, cost, schedule, technical performance, system integration, producibility, interchangeability, and material requirements are considered during new product development
Leads failure investigations and associated corrective actions
Acts as a technical interface to external customers, and forms working relationships with representatives of external technical organizations.
Works closely with project engineering and program management to meet overall program objectives
Shares knowledge with other engineers
Provides mentoring to other engineers
Provides guidance to staff on interpretation of operating procedures and process documents
Drives continuous improvement of engineering tools, methods and technical capabilities
Leads and coordinates continuous improvement projects benefiting the department and other functions
Basic Requirements:
BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
15 years of design and development experience in the defense or aerospace industries
5+ years of project or program leadership
Demonstrated ability to resolve difficult technical problems
Design and development experience in highly integrated mechanical / electrical systems
Familiarity with engineering drawings including GD&T, ANSI Y14.5
Understanding of design for assembly / design for manufacturing (DFA/DFM)
Experience in performing failure analysis and driving implementation of robust corrective action
Experiencing writing and reviewing test plans, procedures and reports
Strong oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated strength in technical writing
U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance
Position may require domestic and international travel, < 10%
This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.
Preferred Requirements:
An advanced degree, MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
Experience with MIL Standards and DO requirements standards (including MIL-STD- 810 and MIL-STD-882)
Familiarity with metallurgical concepts related to heat treating and coatings
Strong background in stress and dynamic analysis and testing
Experience in Finite Element modeling
Design experience with electric motors, solenoids, sensors and gear trains
* Design experience with safety critical control systems
Primary Level Salary Range: $178,600.00 - $268,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
