Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal or Sr Principal Manufacturing Engineer. This position is in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel Program.

What You'll Get To Do:

Join the MFG Engineering team for Sentinel and take part in engineering solutions to deploy and deliver a state-of-the-art weapon system to our customer. This position requires a highly motivated self-starter with knowledge in the fabrication, assembly, system integration, deployment and testing of engineer products. The candidate will Leverage their technical experience and understanding of production processes for PWB (Printed Wiring Boards), CCAs (Circuit Card Assemblies), and LRUs (Line Replaceable Units) to support and enhance manufacturing operations. Embrace a can-do attitude and actively participate in a startup program by learning, advising, and guiding team members in a dynamic and challenging environment. Supports production, business, and other processes in a team-based manufacturing environment. Perform activities in a variety of cross-functional areas including Manufacturing Readiness Assessments, total quality management, manufacturing equipment, facilities engineering, process reengineering and establish sector business area procedural documentation. May facilitate self-directed work teams, provide training in core skill areas to teams and peers, and interact with internal and external customers with respect to product tooling, problem resolution, and process improvement.
The candidate will provide advanced technological ideas and Subject Matter Expertise (SME) to resolve technical questions and ensure compliance and execution to the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) Statement of Work (SOW) requirements. Primary responsibilities will include providing technical and administrative leadership and guidance to the various program Integrated Product Team (IPT) cohorts and Suppliers in support of:

Production documentation and data

Build/Buy

Assembly, installation, and work instructions

Specialty Tooling design, development, and production in support of field installation activities

Team liaison and SME for engineering support during field activities

Additional Job Responsibilities include:

Represents the organization as a technical contact, interacts with senior personnel on important technical matters, facilitates inter-team coordination, and reinforces leadership's vision and goals

Develop processes by studying requirements; research, design, modify, and test production/deployment methods and equipment

Collaborates with Design Engineering on design to ensure practical manufacturing and fabrication solutions

Coordinates with the integration team(s) on day-to-day activities; resolves complex process issues

Work with suppliers to develop manufacturing planning for successful preparation and execution of MRAs

Research and evaluate commercially available tools and equipment to support deployment activities

Investigates root cause of discrepancies and implements corrective actions

Troubleshoots existing processes to improve safety, quality, cost, and efficiency

Develops and maintains detailed work and install instructions for assigned products/processes

Educates/trains operators on new and existing processes

Establish and maintain a program project plan and schedule that is aligned with the program Integrated Master Schedule (IMS)

Provide on-site engineering support during field installations

Provides advanced technological ideas and Subject Matter Expertise (SME) to resolve technical questions and ensure compliance to the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) Statement of Work (SOW) requirements

Implement Lean practices to continually identify opportunities for improvement

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
Job Qualifications:
You'll Bring These Qualifications:

Senior Principal Manufacturing Engineer - Bachelor's degree in Science with 8 years of experience; or Master's with 6 years of experience; or PhD with 4 years of experience. 4 additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

Principal Manufacturing Engineer - Bachelor's degree in Science with 5 years of experience; or Master's with 3 years of experience; or PhD with 1 years of experience. 4 additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

Required for Both Levels:

Must be a U.S. Citizen and have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope

Must be ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need.

Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need.

Experience with Design Reviews, Process Control Documentation, Work Instructions, and Bills of Materials

Experience with Mechanical/Electrical Drawings

Experience with Siemens NX/CPLM or similar tools and Manufacturing Execution System (MES)

Experience using Microsoft Office Products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS-Project)

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

Certified IPC specialist

Experience with PWB/CCAs and LRU's

Experience with CPLM (Common Product Life Cycle Management) and or Manufacturing Execution System (MES).

Understanding/experience with J-STD, soldering techniques, SMT manufacturing, Chips and ICs, etc.

Understand and interpret PWB/CCA design drawings

Interpret X-Rays of CCAs for defects

Writing planning for dispositioned nonconforming PWB/CCAs/LURs and other electrical/electronic items

Experience with ESD protocols and controls

Experience identifying and mitigating producibility requirements

Experience in overseeing sub-tier suppliers

Knowledge of AS6500 requirements.

Experience leading or participating in the definition and execution of Manufacturing Plans/CDRLs, MRA (Manufacturing Readiness Assessments) and MRL's (Manufacturing Readiness Level).

Experience reading and applying GD&T to a blueprint & interfacing with 3D CAD e.g., NX, etc.

Experience determining risk mitigation and developing alternative work around plans

* Understanding the process for the coordination, design and fabrication requirements for tools and fixtures with customers, both internal and external.

Primary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $111,700.00 - $167,500.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
