The position will be supporting the Propulsion Systems Division at our facility located in Promontory, UT.

Role description & Responsibilities:

Individual contributor and manager of a group of about 10 material specialists and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in metals and case materials

Provide technical leadership in metallurgy and/or composite case materials

Ensure team supports both near-term production needs and long-term growth efforts

Ensure proper support for a variety of customers (internal and external)

Grow and develop technical knowledge and depth within the group

Job Duties:

Contribute directly to the support of program technical needs in metals and/or case materials related issues

Direct engineering methodology and maintenance tasks for the metals and case team

Coordinate Team tasks, budgets, and schedules with program managers, IR&D leadership, project engineers, and others in PS

Provide leadership support to the building management of the M-124 metals lab

Oversee Team member workloads and task progression and completion

Mentor Team members in personal growth and career development

Lead and document periodic formal and informal performance reviews and determine merits and promotions

Review and update standard work requirements and guidelines

Determine staffing requirements

Support initiatives of engineering leadership

Basic Qualifications: *

B.S. degree in an engineering or science discipline and 8 years experience, M.S. degree in an engineering or science discipline with 6 years experience, or a PhD. Degree in an engineering or science discipline and 4 years experience.

Strong understanding of rocket motor design, manufacture, and testing

Previous metallurgy or composite case experience - 3 years minimum

Strong knowledge of and experience with production program requirements

Excellent people and technical management skills

Experience in conducting/supporting technical reviews

Strong knowledge of and ability to facilitate and coordinate work across multiple programs

Strong problem-solving skills

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Working knowledge and/or experience across multiple engineering disciplines and their interactions

Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees, management, and customers

Prior experience guiding and mentoring lower-level engineers and scientists

Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong understanding of testing involved with rocket motor materials, especially metals and composites

Previous lab and/or production experience with metals or composites

Previous experience with IRAD compliance requirements

Previous experience of achieving work through others

Previous experience working through interpersonal conflict

Experience generating Basis of Estimates (BOEs) for new work scope, and managing costs to an established budget

Experience presenting to senior leadership

Proven leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills

Experience with anomaly investigations identifying cause and corrective actions

* Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $139,100.00 - $208,700.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
