Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.The Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC) within Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an exceptionally talented, motivated, and creative Research & Development Engineer for our Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) - located outside of Baltimore, Maryland - where we design, manufacture, and test novel semiconductor technologies.
ATL's semiconductor foundry provides unique leading-edge capability in microelectronic devices including semiconductors (Silicon, Gallium Arsenide, Gallium Nitride, Silicon Carbide) and superconductors. Our devices have enabled multiple generations of Northrop Grumman's radar and space systems, among others.

The Research & Development Engineer must possess a strong knowledge of microelectronics. The selected candidate should be "hands on", have an aptitude for technology development, be resourceful and be strong team participants, as well as demonstrating an ability to communicate well with others.

This requisition may be filled as a Principal Research & Development Engineer or Senior Principal Research & Development Engineer
Basic Qualifications for Principal Research & Development Engineer:
• Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Science or any related degree with 5 years technical related experience in microelectronics industry, or Master's Degree with 3 years experience; PhD with 1 year experience
• Must have 2 years experience in modeling and simulation of novel materials and electronic devices.
• Must have an understanding of semiconductor fabrication and processing steps such as wafer bonding.
• US Citizenship required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Research & Development Engineer:
• Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Science or any related degree with 8 years technical related experience in microelectronics industry, or Master's Degree with 6 years experience; PhD with 4 years experience
• Must have 2 years experience in modeling and simulation of novel materials and electronic devices.
• Must have an understanding of semiconductor fabrication and processing steps such as wafer bonding.
• US Citizenship required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Atomistic simulation (e.g. Quantum ATK or LAMMPS) or DFT.
• Device modeling and simulation (e.g. Synopsys, Silvaco, etc.).
• Experience creating machine learning data pipelines.
• Python, JMP, TensorFlow, etc.
• Photonic materials and devices, Electro-optical IR sensor design, strained layer superlattice (SLS) detectors, EO/IR design.
• Thermal and electrical modeling.
• Quantum devices and sensors.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability and desire to assume a technical leadership role within the organization. #NGMCFab
Primary Level Salary Range: $105,400.00 - $158,000.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $131,100.00 - $196,700.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
