Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman seeks a talented professional to join the engineering team in Aurora, Colorado as a Functional Software Engineering Manager Level 2, managing a team of Software Engineers and related disciplines. This manager will have approximately 40 direct reports and will be part of a larger team of managers for the Aurora campus. Sound engineering experience as well as a passion for mentoring and developing employees are a must. The successful candidate will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to lead a diverse team to achieve organizational goals.
This person will report to the SW Department Manager and will have limited direct program assignments.
Responsibilities:

Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers and related disciplines.

Oversee day-to-day communications, compensation reviews, career counseling, mentoring, and professional development.

Conduct employee rewards and recognition, resolve personnel issues, and ensure completion of all corporate requirements (e.g., goal setting, performance reviews).

Responsible for staffing, to include the re-assignment of current staff, bringing in NG staff from outside of the Aurora area and hiring new employees.

Review and ensure quality SW execution in accordance with NG processes and operating procedures.

Provide status updates and consult with Department Manager on staff performance, engagement, and other HR matters.

Partner with HRBP on performance, compensation, staffing, and employee relations.

Hold monthly 1:1s and staff meetings to foster communication and team building.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 8 years related experience in Software Engineering, DevOps, Network Engineering, System Administration, or Database Administration; Master's degree and 6 years of related experience; or a PhD and 4 years of related experience

Effective verbal and written communication skills

Ability to successfully prioritize tasks and obligations

Strong practical knowledge of Engineering Process and Management

Ability to resolve conflicts and negotiate with positive outcome

Experience working with both internal and external customers and partners

Preferred Qualifications:

Direct supervisory experience and/or significant team leadership such as IPT or equivalent role; Functional management experience

Experience with Business Development and capture-related activities

Process improvement experience

Breadth of software engineering lifecycle experience on large or small programs

Strong understanding of agile principles as well as other lean methodologies

Experience working with system requirements and architecture

Primary Level Salary Range: $161,000.00 - $241,700.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
