Software Engineering Manager

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

Reporting to a Director of Nike Technology, this role will work closely with business functions, product managers, program managers, principal level engineers and oversee between 10 and 20 software engineers.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for an Engineering Manager with experience in leading front-end and back-end engineering teams.

This role will be responsible for Nike's most important consumer facing digital experiences.

This role will serve as a key touch point between senior leadership and engineering teams, facilitating clear communication and alignment on daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly priorities and technical initiatives.

This role will manage multiple engineering teams, each with a different mission and focus area. This role may manage between 10 and 20 people. This role will drive business value and technical output through efficient management of the team, knocking down blockers, partnering with cross functional partners, creating roadmaps, ideating future team deliverables, demo'ing new features to varying audiences and conflict resolution. Most importantly, this role will be responsible for developing and growing each individual engineer.

The ideal candidate will have deep emotional intelligence, be driven toward consistent delivery of business value, a fearless communicator and relationship builder.

This is a technical position. The ideal candidate can quickly come up to speed on systems, architecture and organizations structures of people. The ideal candidate will have a background in software engineering, Devops and have proficiency in one or more software languages. Even better if candidate has a background working with one or more of the following JavaScript, Node, React, Java, AWS, Jenkins, GitHub, etc.

You bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or related field. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience and training
  • 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams.
  • 5+ years as an engineer, preferably a tech lead.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to traverse and comprehend complex organizations of people.
  • Diagraming skills.
  • Strong understanding of systems and microservice architecture and RESTful API design.

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON

This role will solve problems that directly impact Nike.com and other Nike digital surfaces suck as the Nike iOS and Android commerce applications. This role will own and oversee daily and weekly ceremonies, regular check-ins with each engineer, and representation of technology needs/interests in technical and non-technical venues alike.
