Role Overview

The Asia Equity Research Product team plays a central role in shaping the quality, consistency, governance, and market impact of Morgan Stanley's equity research franchise across the region, with a particular emphasis on thematic research and cross-industry insights.

Based in Hong Kong, this role is designed for a senior research professional with strong product judgment who enjoys working across content, people, and distribution. The successful candidate will partner closely with Equity Research analysts, Institutional Equities, and senior stakeholders to help determine what research is produced, how it is positioned, and how it connects single-stock, sector, and thematic perspectives for clients.

As research formats and client workflows continue to evolve, the role also offers opportunities to support the selective use of structured data, digital tools, and AI-enabled solutions-always in service of high-quality investment insight, franchise integrity, and commercial relevance.

Key Responsibilities

Research Content Oversight & Governance

  • Review daily equity research output, including rating changes, price target changes, thematic publications, and recurring research.
  • Ensure content is clear, timely, consistent, and aligned with Morgan Stanley's franchise and thematic frameworks.
  • Help identify, assess, and manage potential franchise risk across published research.

Driving Impactful & Thematic Research
  • Work closely with analysts to refine and elevate their most insightful work, including thematic research, cross-sector analysis, thought leadership, and actionable investment ideas.
  • Help connect bottom-up stock and sector insights to broader regional and global themes, ensuring consistency and coherence across research output.
  • Apply product judgment to research prioritization, positioning, and format to maximize client relevance and commercial impact.
  • Support the effective marketing and distribution of thematic and flagship research through Institutional Equities and Research channels.

Product Strategy & Evolution
  • Leverage Morgan Stanley's established research product suite-including thematic frameworks, global collaborations, industry primers, and high-conviction single-stock ideas-to enhance visibility and impact.
  • Contribute to the evolution of research products, including structured thematic insights and scalable content formats, where appropriate.
  • Partner with product, technology, and distribution teams to support innovation while maintaining analytical rigor and thematic integrity.

Regional & Cross-Asset Collaboration
  • Oversee equity research content across Asia, spanning markets including HK, China A shares, South Korea, Japan, Australia, India, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia.
  • Encourage collaboration across sectors, regions, and asset classes-including Fixed Income Research and Economics-to deliver integrated, multi-asset and thematic insights.

Stakeholder Engagement & Commercial Impact
  • Engage closely with Institutional Equities, Investment Banking, Investment Management, and Firm Management.
  • Work with equities sales, sales trading, derivatives, and delta one teams to embed thematic and stock-level research insights into desk workflows and client conversations.
  • Support evolving approaches to client engagement, including interactive and digital delivery of thematic research.

Leadership & Change Management
  • Act as a senior member of the Research Product team, contributing to people development, process improvement, and best practices.
  • Support ongoing change initiatives as research production, distribution, and consumption continue to evolve.


Qualifications & Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in Equity Research, Equities, Research Product, or a closely related role.
  • Strong foundation in finance or economics, with deep understanding of equity markets, research workflows, and thematic investing.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, overseeing, or positioning thematic or cross-sector research.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound product judgment and work effectively with senior analysts and stakeholders.
  • Experience operating in complex, matrixed organizations and driving change collaboratively.
  • Comfort with emerging technologies-including structured data and AI-as applied to research production and distribution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly collaborative, detail-oriented, and commercially focused.
