We're seeking someone to join our Valuation Risk Management team in our Finance Division.

In the Finance division, we act as a partner to business units around the globe by providing management, review, analysis, and advisory services of the Firm's financial and capital resources.

The Morgan Stanley Valuation Control team is responsible for providing independent valuation assessments across the firm's entire range of financial instruments, ensuring adherence to fair value accounting standards. This function encompasses model certification and assessment of valuation methodologies, comparison of internal valuation marks with external benchmarks, identification and resolution of valuation discrepancies, and effective communication of valuation assessments to senior trading and Finance management. The team is also dedicated to the ongoing enhancement of the valuation control infrastructure, promoting global and cross-product standardization.

The Morgan Stanley Valuation Control team plays a critical role in maintaining the firm's reputation for excellence and reliability, comprising professionals with expertise in finance, quantitative analysis, and risk management. By leveraging advanced analytical tools and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, the team ensures that valuation processes remain robust and responsive to changing market conditions. What you'll do in the role:

Independent Valuation Assessment:

  • Conduct Independent Price Verification (IPV) for a diverse global portfolio, utilizing external data sources and financial models. This includes both vanilla and exotic structured derivatives across asset classes such as fixed income, commodities, equities, and investments.
  • Ensure compliance with fair value accounting by certifying models and their valuation methodologies.


Collaboration and Communication:
  • Engage in discussions with front-office traders to debate IPV results and marking methodologies.
  • Communicate valuation assessments effectively to senior trading and Finance management.


Model and Risk Analysis:
  • Work closely with model developers to review and enhance valuation and risk models.
  • Analyse pricing factors in complex financial products and assess the impact of market movements on the portfolio and the firm.

  • Identify and eliminate control gaps within the pricing framework.
  • Contribute to the continuous enhancement of the valuation control infrastructure, aiming for global and cross-product standardization.


Regulatory and Technological Development:
  • Drive development on regulatory deliverables and automation projects using Agile methodologies.


What you'll bring to the role:

Educational Background and Expertise:
  • A degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a Business-related discipline provides a background in theoretical and practical aspects of financial concepts and market dynamics.
  • Familiarity with main financial products, their market context, and associated risks enables effective participation in the financial sector and informed decision-making based on market trends and risk assessments.


Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in VBA, Python, or similar programming languages benefits automation, data analysis, and financial modeling.
  • Strong analytical skills and expertise in Excel
  • Familiarity with pricing models and risk management techniques
