Role Overview
The Executive Director or Vice President, Loan Trading, is responsible for managing the buying and selling of leveraged loans within a dynamic and growing Morgan Stanley franchise with global reach. The role drives portfolio performance while overseeing risk, providing strategic market insights, cultivating client relationships, and leading a team. It also ensures regulatory compliance and efficient trade execution and settlement.
What will you be doing?
- Bolster loan trading capabilities to improve client flow and franchise rankings with key clients and sponsors, and enhance wallet share across secondary loan markets
- Trade leveraged and stressed loan products across financial markets, partnering closely with global sales teams to deliver consistent client pricing and execution
- Deepen and expand client relationships across Leveraged Finance platforms, assessing evolving investment interests, priorities, and risk profiles
- Manage counterparty exposure, and risk through multiple periods of market stress and volatility
- Monitor cash and funding markets to dynamically hedge exposures and efficiently fund trading inventory
- Align loan trading activity with credit and market risk frameworks, balance sheet constraints, and applicable regulatory requirements
- Apply robust pricing methodologies and risk analysis across loan portfolios and client transactions
- Collaborate with sales, research, and other Morgan Stanley trading teams globally to develop loan trading strategies and axes for MSBAG clients, ensuring alignment with overall strategy and business objectives
- Partner with sales colleagues to execute client orders and oversee the efficient and effective execution of trades
- Assess the potential impact of trading activity to safeguard the Firm's reputation with clients, regulators, and other external stakeholders
- Work closely with e-trading stakeholders to support the development and expansion of the loan e-trading platform as part of the Firm's evolving secondary market infrastructure
What we're looking for:
- 5+ years of loan trading experience or experience in closely related disciplines (e.g. credit analysis)
- Degree from a competitive programme (e.g. Finance, Mathematics, Economics, or Engineering) ideal
- Disciplined, high energy professional able to provide consistent client pricing and maintain strong daily information flow across global trading desks
- Proven ability to operate in a fast paced environment, make timely decisions, and prioritise effectively
- Strong relationship builder, comfortable engaging with clients, sales teams, and traders
- Collaborative team player with a positive attitude; prior people management experience is a plus
- Experience reviewing, interpreting, and negotiating loan documentation preferred
