Linux/UNIX Engineer - GPU Enablement
We're seeking someone to join our team as a Linux/UNIX Engineer in Enterprise Tech & Services.
The Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) Engineering group in the Enterprise Computing division at Morgan Stanley is responsible for designing and implementing the firm's huge scale, global Linux and Virtualization infrastructure. The group is involved in evaluation, certification, integration, and maintenance of numerous products, including hardware, hypervisor platform, the Linux OS platform, system configuration, critical infrastructure services (DNS, DHCP, NTP, etc.), high availability products, virtualization management technologies, and a variety of tooling to support these technologies.

This is a Linux/UNIX Engineer position at Director level, which is part of the job family responsible for managing and optimizing technical infrastructure and ensuring the seamless operation of IT systems to support business needs effectively.

What you'll do in the role:
- Join a team of skilled and experienced technologists tasked with maintaining and enhancing our large scale, globally deployed RedHat Linux-based platform.
- Take ownership of process for GPU driver installation, management and troubleshooting, using configuration management tools to deliver and maintain.
- Deliver and iteratively improve monitoring & metrics solutions for our on-premise GPU estate, to facilitate maximum utilisation and ROI for our business.
- Collaborate with partner engineering teams to
- certify & deploy new GPU hardware for generative AI and intensive compute
- enable development teams to exploit the capabilities of GPU in their software
- virtualise GPU hardware to further increase utilisation and value add
- Work with vendors to provide support for large estate of on-premise Linux installations
- Use declarative configuration-as-code principles and extensive automation across a mixture of strategic engineering and design projects.
- Add features, manage, and tune configuration, and perform deep-level troubleshooting of the existing Linux platform management systems and Linux O/S configuration and builds.

What you'll bring to the role:
- Expert knowledge of Linux, including familiarity with UNIX system calls, and low-level O/S and network protocols.
- Knowledge and experience of enterprise GPU hardware, drivers, and firmware
- Experience of using any modern config management system (examples such as Ansible, Salt Stack, Puppet, or Chef) to automate management of a large-scale Linux deployment.
- Ability to write robust, maintainable code in Python.
- Effective troubleshooting skills across hardware, O/S, network, and storage.
- Ability to convey complex technical topics to a non-technical audience,
You might also have:
- Experience working in a large, multi-national enterprise in any industry vertical, showing experience of communicating and collaborating in globally distributed teams.
- Enthusiasm for modern development tools and practices including Git, Jenkins, automated testing, and continuous integration.
- Experience of implementing and supporting large scale production IaaS platforms, working with virtualisation and other private cloud technologies
- Knowledge of building and managing containerised software in a secure manner.
- As a reference point, contributors to open source projects would be an ideal fit.
- Knowledge of other programming languages, such as C or C++
