Team Profile:

EMEA Client Money Protection Technology is a core part of the Operation Technology organization. The squad based in Glasgow is responsible for several systems which ensure our clients are not disadvantaged by events such as trading friction or insolvency by segregating the firm's own cash to protect them. This is a critical regulatory function that heavily scrutinized by FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) and external auditors and crucial to the firm's reputation and the ability to run the business.
We directly work with our business partners who are also collocated in Glasgow. This includes Client Money operations and senior business stakeholder who was directly appointed by FCA to be responsible for Client Money function.

Role Profile:

Operate as a tech lead and full stack developer (including BA and dev-ops responsibilities) in a very agile, business focused team. Directly facing off with senior business stakeholders. The Glasgow team is composed of multiple squads of developers at different levels; each supports the full lifecycle of a system from requirements gathering to production deployment.

We use a wide variety of technologies to achieve our business goals but are most focused on the accuracy & precision of our work as our systems can have a significant reputational impact on the firm with both clients and regulators.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team at a time when we are starting a significant renovation of our technology platform, implementing Cloud based data strategy and expanding to international regimes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Squad Leadership & Deliver Oversight:
  • Help the team manager to lead a development squad, ensuring delivery of the EMEA Client Money book of work, from requirements to production deployment. Oversee planning, sprint execution, and backlog management in collaboration with product owners.
  • Hands-On Software Engineering:
  • Design, implement and maintain scalable and robust software platforms using standard Java frameworks such as Spring Boot and Hibernate.


Technology Modernization:
  • Help to drive the implementation of a strategic modernization roadmap using modern engineering practices and aligned with firm's technology standards.
  • Acquire in-depth knowledge of the business function to guide requirement definition, technical design, and decision making.
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in communication, programing, testing and DevOps. People management responsibilities are optional but can apply if needed. This includes hiring responsibilities, performance feedback and career development.
  • Share the responsibilities of production support from the team, ensuring high availability, monitoring and timely incident resolution. Serve as a point of contact and coordinate root cause analysis and long-term remediation strategies.
  • Oversee release planning and execution. Ensure production changes are thorough tested, documented and coordinated across dependent systems with minimal impact to users.

Required Capabilities and Skills:
  • Strong programming expertise in Java (7+), including a deep understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and concurrency.
  • Extensive experience with Spring ecosystem. Familiar with data transformation frameworks, batch processing (e.g., Spring Batch).
  • Solid foundation in SQL, relational databases (DB2) and ability to write complex queries.
  • Experience in UI development with frameworks such as Angular and .NET
  • Experience with managing release cycles, including CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation. Familiar with the firm's standard tooling (e.g., VMS, Train, AutoSDLC)
  • Understanding of event-based architectures both point to point and subscription based.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical teams
  • Strong analytical and design skills, including the ability to understand business requirements and translate them into efficient and effective technical designs that work well within large-scale, well-structured enterprise environments.
  • Excellent trouble-shooting skills, with the ability to quickly identify and document the root cause of issues and effectively communicate possible resolutions.
