Investment Banking Operations Officer (Vice President / Executive Director) - New York

We are looking for an Investment Banking Operations Officer to join our Investment Banking Division. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting the day-to-day operations of one or more designated coverage groups, driving strategic initiatives, talent development, business management, and operational excellence. This is a highly visible role that partners closely with senior bankers, Human Resources, and Investment Banking Management to ensure the effective execution of business priorities while fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture.

The Operations Officer serves as a trusted advisor to group leadership, balancing strategic analysis and planning with hands-on execution across business management, talent initiatives, recruiting, compliance, and team operations. This role offers the opportunity to influence the development of our people, improve operating processes, and contribute meaningfully to the long-term success of the franchise.

You will: (Key Responsibilities)

  • Drive business management initiatives, including budget oversight, revenue tracking, headcount analysis, strategic planning, and preparation of business reviews.
  • Coordinate talent management processes, including performance reviews, calibration sessions, feedback delivery, training programs, promotions, and employee development initiatives.
  • Partner with recruiting teams and business leadership to support campus recruiting, lateral hiring, onboarding, and placement of junior professionals.
  • Work closely with staffing officers and senior management to monitor team utilization, workload balance, and resource allocation across the business.
  • Lead the planning and execution of internal meetings, leadership forums, team-building activities, client events, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Partner with Compliance and Legal to support regulatory requirements, supervisory responsibilities, approvals, policy adherence, and risk management activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational processes, leverage technology, and implement best practices that enhance efficiency across the business.


You have: (Must-have skills and qualifications)
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in financial services, business management, operations, talent management, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience coordinating cross-functional initiatives and building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and manage sensitive information with professionalism.
  • Ability to translate business priorities into actionable change initiatives, partnering with stakeholders to implement new processes and drive adoption.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, with experience synthesizing data into executive-ready business reporting.
  • Working knowledge of AI tools and concepts, with the ability to apply them responsibly to enhance productivity, analysis, and business decision-making.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $250,000 and $275,000 per year for a Vice President, and between $275,000 and $300,000 per year for an Executive Director, at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
