Institutional Client Specialist - Retirement

Institutional Infrastructure Solutions (IIS) provides world-class service to Morgan Stanley's institutional and family office clients. IIS supports clients in partnership with Financial Advisors and WM Operations. IIS specifically supports all client service model execution processes including Client Onboarding and Maintenance, Money Movement, Investment Implementation, Portfolio Aggregation/Reporting and Billing.

The Institutional Client Specialist - Retirement is centered on providing exceptional customer service to an institutional client base, with an emphasis on consistently strengthening and improving the client experience.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide subject matter expert sales support to Financial Advisors on employer-sponsored retirement plan design options, regulatory considerations from the Department of Labor and the Internal Revenue Service, and the investment manager screening and reporting process; resolve inquiries or direct them to the appropriate team with a high standard of service.
  • Serve as the primary contact for Financial Advisors on the participant engagement program, including guidance on program adoption and navigation of the Corporate Retirement Portal.
  • Build trust and credibility with Financial Advisors by demonstrating strong knowledge of Morgan Stanley retirement solutions, ongoing plan servicing needs, and applicable regulatory topics; stay current on policy and regulatory updates.
  • Develop a strong understanding of how employer-sponsored retirement plans meet the needs of employers and employees to align recommendations with available solutions.
  • Explain Morgan Stanley's fiduciary investment monitoring service, including investment lineup assessments and recommended fund substitutions from the investment manager analysis team.
  • Guide Financial Advisors on retirement plan maintenance requirements and perform account maintenance as needed to support Department of Labor compliance.
  • Perform account maintenance on institutional retirement plan accounts to ensure accurate setup and ongoing servicing.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to identify process and technology roadblocks and implement scalable improvements that support growth of the institutional business.
  • Coordinate across business lines, operations teams, and external providers to resolve client issues end-to-end.
  • Participate in ongoing training to maintain knowledge of policies, procedures, and risk awareness; take initiative and collaborate effectively within a team environment.

Qualifications:
  • College degree required
  • 3 or more years of industry experience preferred
  • Active Series 7, 63 and 65 (or Series 7 and 66) required
  • Additional product licenses may be required
  • Experience with employer-sponsored retirement plans strongly preferred
  • Experience with Custodians, Recordkeepers, and Third-Party Administrators in the Retirement Industry preferred


Knowledge/Skills:
  • Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership, accountability and work ethic
  • Detail oriented with superior organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Exceptional writing, interpersonal and client service skills
  • Team player with the ability to collaborate with others
  • Strong industry, product and branch procedures knowledge
  • Knowledge of Department of Labor and ERISA regulations
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) skills
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Demonstrated leadership skills

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $70,000 and $115,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
