Department Profile

Financial Resource and Strategy (FRS) is a division within the Institutional Securities Group (ISG) that is responsible for secured funding, collateral and margin optimization, CCP relationship management and resource management, including capital / balance sheet management, across ISG.

About the role

Firm Financing is a dedicated business area within FRS responsible for overseeing Firm-wide secured funding and collateral optimization. Our team is looking for an Analyst/Associate, with responsibilities of interfacing with external clients and internal trading divisions to achieve client and firm objectives.

The successful candidate will be based in Tokyo and will be responsible for developing and managing client relationships, providing market color and summarizing developments or opportunities in markets. They will partner with Clients, FRS globally, Sales and Trading, Operations, Technology, Legal and Finance, ensuring the most optimal use of the firm's assets in line with liabilities, revenue targets and optimization objectives.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Delivering the firm to our clients and presenting a coordinated approach to client engagement
  • Developing new and existing relationships with clients including agent lenders, corporate treasurers, pension funds and other liquidity providers
  • Cross selling the firm with MSIM, GCM, PWM and ISG Divisions including Sales and Trading desks
  • Articulating client asks and providing feedback on client and liquidity flows in various daily and weekly meetings
  • Cross-divisional collaboration with members of Securities Lending, Client Financing, ISG Sales, Corporate Treasury, Prime Brokerage, and trading desks across FID and IED to monetize firm assets externally in secured financing transactions.


Skills Required:
  • Excellent communication and strong inter-personal skills
  • Strong interest in Sales/ Relationship Management and financial markets - particularly equity and fixed income financing markets (securities lending, repo, delta one) and short duration fixed income products (front end credit and rates)
  • An understanding of key regulatory requirements and frameworks across the financing markets
  • Effective team player that measures success with results
  • Confidence in telephone, written and face to face interactions and participation in industry events and conferences
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task and work in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills. Strong presentation skills with ability to organize and deliver strategic initiatives
  • Proficiency in PPT, Excel, Bloomberg
  • Fluency in English (and Japanese preferred)
