Department Profile

The Fixed Income Division (FID) spans Interest Rate and Currency Products, Credit Products, and Distribution. Teams within FID actively manage risk, trade complex securities, and design innovative solutions in fast-moving global markets.

The E-Rates group is a global leader in electronic market making for U.S. Treasuries. We build and operate low-latency, high-reliability trading systems that power some of the most active markets in the world.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced E-Trading Algorithmic Quant at the Associate or VP level to help design, build, and evolve best-in-class electronic trading algorithms. This role sits at the intersection of quantitative finance, software engineering, and market microstructure, with direct exposure to production trading systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with Strats and Trading to design, implement, and optimize electronic trading algorithms.
  • Apply GenAI and modern engineering techniques to modernize legacy systems and improve performance, maintainability, and scalability.
  • Drive efficiency across the SDLC, DevOps tooling, and model risk management (MRM) processes.
  • Build and operate highly performant, low-latency, and highly available production systems.
  • Work in an agile environment with close feedback loops from traders, quants, and engineers.
  • Contribute to a modern technology stack built primarily in C++ and Python.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field, with additional coursework or background in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or Engineering.
  • 2-6 years of experience in electronic trading or electronic trading system development across asset classes such as Rates, FX, or Equities.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex technical or quantitative concepts.
  • Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • High attention to detail, ownership mindset, and the ability to work thoughtfully in a production-critical environment.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $150,000 and $200,000 for Associate and between $160,000 and $250,000 for Vice President. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
