Modern Animal is looking for a FP&A Manager to join our growing team.

We’re looking for a financial strategist who thrives on turning numbers into insights and driving business success. In this role, you’ll be at the heart of financial planning, supporting our organization through budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial modeling to support company-wide goals. You’ll own and refine our multi-year financial model, helping shape strategic decisions on revenue growth, expense management, and capital investments. Your expertise in financial analysis will inform leadership through compelling reports, dashboards, and presentations that simplify complex data for clear decision-making. You’ll also play a key role in real estate site selection, ensuring our expansion strategy is backed by robust financial insights. Beyond the numbers, you’ll collaborate closely with clinic leaders—offering financial guidance on cost control, labor efficiency, and revenue optimization tailored to each location to support profitability. You’ll also champion knowledge sharing, providing training and support to foster financial discipline across teams.

Reporting to the VP of Finance, you will join a team of experts in high-growth startups, building a modern, technology-enabled veterinary company. This role is located in Los Angeles, CA. You’ll visit the clinics as needed - with more during onboarding - to deeply understand our business model, our internal customers, and their business understanding needs.

What the job entails:

  • Financial Planning: Support the annual planning and forecasting processes for each clinic, ensuring alignment with overall company goals and initiatives.
  • Multi-Year Financial Model: Own and enhance the multi-year financial statement model, incorporating assumptions for revenue growth, expense management, and capital expenditures. Utilize this model for long-term strategic planning and investment decisions.
  • Analysis and Reporting: Develop and maintain financial models to analyze trends, variances, and key performance indicators at both the clinic and corporate levels. Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports for leadership.
  • Financial Information Communications: Communicate with Care our Financial Performance through presentations, write ups, or simplified data visualizations based on what is being communicated and the audience. This will show up in Monthly Business Review, Board Decks, Financial Performance Reviews, Weekly Performance Reviews, and ad hoc communications.
  • Real Estate Site Selection: Build upon existing tools & process to ensure consistency of financial analysis of real estate site selection and market analysis.  Support broader physical footprint strategy as required.
  • Clinic Support: Partner with clinic leaders to provide financial insights and guidance, assisting with cost management, labor management, and revenue enhancement strategies tailored to each location.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Act as a financial expert within the organization by providing training and support to clinic staff and management on financial concepts and best practices, fostering a culture of financial discipline. Support with content creation for external parties as needed.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial planning and reporting across clinics.
  • Ad-hoc Analysis: Conduct ad-hoc financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and special projects, including new clinic openings or service line expansions.

You’d be a great fit if:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis, preferably in a healthcare or service-oriented environment.
  • Strong proficiency in financial modeling and advanced Excel skills; experience with accounting or practice management software is a plus.
  • Expertise with SQL queries, ETL, A/B Testing, and analysis; Excel / GSheets, Powerpoint / Gslides, Retool, Analytics & Viz Tools
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • A meticulous thinker with a strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and present financial concepts to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, constantly changing, team-oriented environment and able to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously

The annual base salary for this position is in the range of $93,000 - $119,000 in Los Angeles, CA. This position is also eligible for benefits. Ultimately, the salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in the role, business sector, and geographic location, among other criteria.
