Facility Maintenance Technician I

The Facility Maintenance Technician I supports the day-to-day upkeep and readiness of the Jackie Robinson Training Complex through hands-on maintenance, basic repairs, and preventative maintenance support. This entry-level to early-career role focuses on maintaining building functionality, safety, and appearance while assisting senior technicians with more advanced facility systems work. The position plays a key role in ensuring the campus remains operational, safe, and guest-ready year-round.

Responsibilities

General Repairs and Maintenance

  • Perform routine repairs such as patching walls, adjusting or replacing doors and hardware, fixing hinges, repairing small leaks, and replacing damaged ceiling tiles
  • Complete basic plumbing tasks such as unclogging drains, replacing faucet components, and troubleshooting minor leaks
  • Perform non-licensed electrical tasks including replacing light bulbs or ballasts, resetting breakers, and checking outlets
  • Conduct painting, sanding, and small finish repairs to maintain facility appearance
  • Assist with basic carpentry tasks such as repairing trim, replacing small sections of drywall, installing shelves, and adjusting cabinetry

Facility Systems Support

  • Assist senior maintenance staff during HVAC, electrical, or mechanical repairs by gathering tools, staging materials, and completing assigned support tasks
  • Participate in preventative maintenance routines by completing assigned checklists, basic inspections, and reporting issues outside of scope
  • Learn facility systems and maintenance standards through hands-on experience and on-the-job training

Operational and Event Support

  • Complete daily walkthroughs of assigned buildings to identify maintenance concerns
  • Respond to work orders in a timely and professional manner
  • Move equipment or furniture as needed for maintenance tasks (not event setups)
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness within maintenance shops, storage rooms, and work areas

  • Accurately record completed work, repairs, and inspections in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Follow all JRTC safety protocols, OSHA guidelines, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, major facility issues, or system concerns to the Maintenance Supervisor or Engineering Manager

Qualifications & Skills

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • 1–2 years of experience in general building maintenance, handyman work, construction, or a related trade preferred
  • Comfortable using basic hand tools and common power tools (drills, sanders, saws)
  • Ability to read simple diagrams, follow instructions, and learn new skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently once trained
  • Able to lift and move up to 50 lbs and perform physical work throughout the shift, including standing, walking, bending, and climbing ladders
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed based on facility activity
  • Valid driver’s license required

The Jackie Robinson Training Complex (JRTC), operated by Major League Baseball (MLB) located in Vero Beach, Florida, serves as a year-round hub for amateur development initiatives and events designed to diversify and strengthen the talent pipelines of baseball and softball. We are the permanent home to several signature youth-focused events and programs, such as the Nike RBI World Series and the Hank Aaron Invitational, which teach players how to succeed on and off the field. The historic facility, formerly known as Dodgertown, was renamed Jackie Robinson Training Complex in honor of its trailblazing namesake.
