Role Title: Shopper Insights Lead
Location: Melbourne, Vic

Hours: Full-time, permanent

Reporting to: Consumer & Market Insights Director - Mars Pet Nutrition Australia

The Shopper Insights Lead will be accountable for driving competitive advantage for Mars Petcare via the delivery of superior and compelling Shopper insights to unlock strategies that drive development of superior customer strategies, decision making and market activations

What you'll do:

  • Manage and execute complex and challenging insights projects focussed upon generating superior understanding of Petcare shoppers along the whole Path to Purchase and in an Omni-channel (Bricks and Mortar, On-line and Speciality retailerss) context incl.: Shopper Funnels; Shopper Missions; Eye Tracking; Path to Purchase; Channel and Retailer Choice; and In Store Decision Making


  • Provides market understanding including estimates of market size where data is unavailable to provide a view of total market context. Assists the Consumer and Market Insights lead in preparing market context analysis for Strategy Days and Global visits.


  • Delivers insights as compelling retailer sell in stories that link Petcare Strategy to Retailer strategies and Category Growth via the Category Vision.


  • Represent the shopper in the 3 year Growth Planning process to enable superior opportunity identification


  • Stimulate, guide and influence Category Growth Driver application by Retailer / Channel


  • Support and guide business teams regarding the strategic 'sell' of strategy


  • Works closely with consumer insights colleagues to create shared understanding and 'single story' of the consumer to shopper/path 2 purchase journey


  • Continuous improvement of insight Methodologies and Research practices resulting in definitive 'better/best practice'

What you need to bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree in either Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or Data Science


  • 4+ years experience in shopper insights or category lead roles where you have partnered across the organization to analyse a range of internal & external data sources, drawing out key insights and forming recommendations that strongly links to business strategy, ideally gained in an FMCG or retail/grocery business


  • Demonstratable experience in the analysis of a range of internal & external data sources, drawing out key insights and forming recommendations on the basis of solid commercial knowledge with links to business strategy.


  • Superior analytic tool skills including strong Excel, Data Visualisation and statistical analysis experience, power BI reporting skills and/or SQL skills well regarded


  • 4+ years working experience with sales data such as Circana, Quantium, Synergy
