Engineering Manager, Corp Tech

Today London, United Kingdom

About Us

MarketAxess is on a journey to digitally transform one of the world’s largest financial markets, enabling the shift from analog, phone-based trading to a fully electronic marketplace. Why does this matter? Because our platform makes trading fixed-income more accessible, ultimately improving transparency, efficiency, and competition in the marketplace. Changing the way an established industry transacts is no easy feat. There will be twists and turns, because no one’s ever done this before. But now, more than 2,000 clients around the world rely on our solutions, and that number is only expected to grow in the years ahead. We know where we’re going. How we get there is up to us. Join us and help Take Us There.

The Role

The Corporate Technology Engineering Manager is a hands-on engineering leader and solution architect responsible for designing, building, and scaling firmwide platforms that support corporate functions (Finance, HR, Legal & Compliance, Risk, and Marketing). You will own end-to-end delivery—from architecture and vendor selection through implementation, integration, and production operations, working closely with corporate stakeholders and technology teams to modernize platforms, consolidate tooling, and raise the bar on reliability, security, and controls.

This role leads delivery across key services such as workflow and case management, reconciliations, regulatory reporting enablement, client lifecycle platforms, and operational controls. You will translate business outcomes into pragmatic target architecture, guide engineering teams through build vs. buy decisions, and partner with vendors to deliver integrated solutions that are scalable and supportable.

How You’ll Help Take Us There

Engineering Leadership & Solution Architecture

  • Own the end-to-end technical delivery for corporate function platforms architecture, engineering execution, integration, testing, and production rollout
  • Assess the current-state landscape, identify consolidation opportunities, and define a practical target architecture (APIs, data flows, controls, and operating model)
  • Lead firmwide implementations (vendor platforms), including technical design reviews, cutover planning, and post-go-live stabilization
  • Partner day-to-day with Finance, HR, Legal & Compliance, Risk, Marketing, Operations, and InfoSec to prioritize work, manage dependencies, and deliver measurable outcomes
  • Be the “hands-on” escalation point, debug complex issues, unblock teams, and make architecture trade-offs quickly and transparently

Build, Run & Improve (Delivery Excellence)

  • Lead a small number of high-performing engineering squads; set clear technical direction, review designs, and coach engineers through delivery
  • Own production health: incident management, root-cause analysis, remediation plans, and performance/capacity improvements
  • Implement modern engineering standards: API-first services, CI/CD, automated testing, observability (logs/metrics/traces), and SLOs
  • Design and deliver workflow orchestration using BPM/workflow engines, decision services, and microservices to reduce manual effort and exceptions
  • Apply AI/ML where it is proven and measurable (e.g., exception triage, document classification, anomaly detection), with strong controls and monitoring
  • Run vendor technical evaluations and implementations: due diligence, reference architectures, integration patterns, data/security requirements, and delivery governance

Controls, Risk & Enterprise Governance

  • Ensure solutions meet enterprise standards for security, privacy, resiliency, and supportability in partnership with InfoSec, Risk, and Compliance
  • Present architecture, delivery status, and risk decisions to governance forums; communicate trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical leaders
  • Deliver audit-ready platforms: access controls, SDLC evidence, data retention/residency, operational controls, and change management

Vendor Management

  • Own senior relationships with key vendors and internal procurement/third-party risk partners; align roadmaps, escalation paths, and delivery expectations
  • Lead contract and delivery governance (SOWs, milestones, SLAs, support model, release cadence) and ensure integrations land cleanly in production
  • Measure vendor outcomes (stability, throughput, defects, cost) and drive continuous improvement with joint remediation and roadmap plans

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years in technology with experience leading engineering teams delivering platforms for corporate functions and/or operations in financial services
  • Proven solution architecture experience designing integrated enterprise systems (build and buy), including data, APIs, and integration patterns
  • Strong grasp of modern engineering practices: cloud, microservices, REST/event-driven APIs, CI/CD, automated testing, and monitoring
  • Experience using automation and developer productivity tools to improve delivery speed and quality (e.g., test automation, code scanning, workflow automation)
  • Hands-on software engineering background (Java, C++, or similar) with ability to dive into code and architecture when needed
  • Deep experience implementing vendor platforms firmwide, including technical due diligence, integration delivery, and service management
  • Cloud and integration experience (AWS/Azure/GCP), microservices, and enterprise integration pattern
