CLO Associate Research Analyst
The Role
Our Specialty Finance investment team is in search of a CLO Associate Research Analyst to help maximize the performance of our CLO Investment capabilities. The primary focus of the role is to establish, document, and communicate credit and fundamental views that drive alpha at the subsector and security level for Lord Abbett’s Fixed Income franchise. The Associate Research Analyst is responsible for primary pipeline surveillance; industry, manager and position surveillance; structural and collateral analysis; and relative value assessments. This role provides an opportunity to interact with multiple investment teams in a highly collaborative and dynamic organization. This role is based in our Jersey City, New Jersey office and reports to a Portfolio Manager (Specialty Finance).
We’ll trust you to:
- Incorporate a rigorous qualitative and quantitative approach to idea generation, research and surveillance that will help in shaping manager and sector strategy, as well as collateral and deal performance
- Actively monitor key issuance trends and figures in the BSL CLO, Middle Market / Private Credit CLO, Infrastructure CLO and CBO markets, spanning across both the US and European markets
- Play a key role in the initiation and generation of CLO investment ideas in collaboration with Portfolio Managers while embracing Lord Abbett’s investment philosophy and process
- Conduct monthly surveillance on the existing portfolio, and publish commentary highlighting manager-level and CUSIP-level performance, trends, and key insights
- Produce written credit reviews pertaining to timely investment opportunities as they arise across primary and secondary markets
- Develop a deep understanding of the various structures and documentation in the market by fully engaging with CLO managers directly
- Create, publish and elevate content for consumption of the broader Taxable Fixed Income department to drive insight into investments beyond the scope of CLO
- Work closely with Portfolio Managers to vet and shape our sector-level and bond-level recommendations to effect alpha-generating investment ideas for our clients
- Design and build credit-oriented scenarios via cashflow modeling software and/or in-house proprietary models to support both new investment ideas and ongoing surveillance of existing positions
- Help maintain a database containing data from but not limited to monthly trustee reports, quarterly note valuation reports, underlying loan level details, ad hoc manager data, and bond level price / spread data

You'll need to have:
- 2-5 years of experience in Securitized Products or Leveraged Finance; CLO experience a plus
- Experience on the buy side or sell side highly valued
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to work across many sectors
- Critical thinking and proactive problem-solving skills driven by self-starter mentality
- Effective written and verbal communication style
- Flexibility to juggle multiple priorities and projects of varying urgency
- Kanerai, Intex, Bloomberg, SQL, R and/or Python skills a plus
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; MBA and/or CFA designation are viewed positively but not required

Compensation Information: Annual base salary for this role is $130,000 - $175,000. Salary is estimated for this role. Actual pay may be different.
Discretionary Bonus: Role may be eligible to receive an annual discretionary bonus. Discretionary bonuses are determined by several factors including, but not limited to, firm, team, and individual performance.
