Position: Chief Engineer

Department: Performance and Campus Operations

Role Overview: Reporting to the Director, Engineering and Facilities, the Chief Engineer supervises Engineering and Mechanic staff responsible for maintaining various aspects of the HVAC, plumbing and sprinkler operations for Lincoln Center's David Geffen Hall and Alice Tully Hall which resides on Lincoln Center's 16-acre campus. Lincoln Center is a 24x7 operation. This is a full-time (40 hours per week) union-represented position (Local 30) with the potential for overtime work.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervise engineers and maintenance staff including hiring, training, personnel development, etc.
  • Ensure performance management, coaching, and development of team members through established HR processes and disciplinary actions
  • Utility Management such as tracking use, consumption, cost, and reporting as directed by Management and/or Leadership
  • Conduct regular inspections of building systems and equipment; identify and resolve issues.
  • Assist in maintenance/engineering issues as required
  • Recommend and implement improvements for preventive maintenance programs on an ongoing basis
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an effective preventive and predictive maintenance program for task scheduling, routines, and performance (program to include procedures for annual, semi-annual, quarterly, monthly and other scheduled maintenance as provided by the manufacturer's recommendations and/or industry best practices)
  • Shall administer and manage the facility Emergency Action Plan (EAP) inclusive of supporting role updates and will assume the role of the EAP Director.
  • Shall administer and manage updates to the facility Fire Protection Plan (FPP)
  • Develop and maintain effective building-specific maintenance manuals and train building personnel
  • Coordinate development of and/or maintain an Operations Document Library, including but not limited to construction plans, structural plans, as-built drawings, MEP schedules, line diagrams and schematics, equipment and operation manuals, start up and commissioning documents, and equipment warranties
  • Formulate and conduct building-related systems and equipment training
  • Coordinate construction and maintenance efforts with outside contractors
  • Oversee all building systems including fire/life safety, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical issues; must remain current with the latest HVAC technology trends
  • Maintain ongoing communication with staff, management, and vendors
  • May assist in solicitation and acquisition of new maintenance contracts
  • Respond to all emergency situations quickly (fire, evacuation, equipment failure etc.) and constituent concerns
  • Implement and administer inventory control programs, purchase parts and supplies
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, requisitions, government agencies, and company directives as it relates to building operations
  • Support management with rehabilitation projects such as replacement of HVAC systems, installation of new equipment, plumbing repairs and alterations
  • Perform final inspections, punch list exceptions, and expedite corrective action

  • 7+ years of related work experience in a commercial property setting or any similar combination of education or experience in the operation, installation and maintenance of building systems within depth technical understanding and knowledge of all HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and control systems.
  • Appropriate Licenses and Certificates of Fitness The following are required for this position. Any missing licenses/certificates need to be obtained within 45 days of employment (LCPA will pay for training/licensure)

    • S-12 Citywide Sprinkler Systems
    • S-13 Citywide Standpipe Systems
    • G-60 Torch Use of Flammable Gas
    • A-35 To Operate and Maintain Air Compressors
    • S-95 Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems
    • F-01 Fire Guard for Impairment
    • P-98 Fuel-Oil Piping and Storage System
    • F-53 Emergency One Way Voice Announcement Personnel
  • Preferred:
    • F-60 Fire Guard for Torch Operations
    • F-03 COF for indoor place of assembly
    • Pesticide license
    • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Vocational/Technical training certificate
  • Familiarity with Energy Management System (EMS)/programming and fire alarm systems
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Excel & Word
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of building systems and operations, contractual maintenance, construction & related services, and local laws & building codes pertaining to building operations and safety.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use the following:
  • hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl for extended periods of time
  • Climb ladders to conduct inspections, maintenance, and repairs
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
