We're hiring a Special Claims Examiner on our Reinsurance Claims Examining team. Our mission is simple: recover the money Liberty is owed under our reinsurance contracts. The role is ideal for someone who likes complex claim analysis, contract review, financial detail, and working with internal and external partners to drive recoveries. It's a high-impact opportunity where strong execution directly contributes to the company's bottom line.

The Special Claims Examiner is responsible for managing the end-to-end ceded reinsurance claims process, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, collections, and reconciliations with reinsurers. This role serves as a subject matter expert, partnering with internal stakeholders, brokers, and reinsurers to resolve complex claim issues while maintaining compliance with treaty and facultative reinsurance agreements.

The ideal candidate possesses strong technical reinsurance knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work independently while contributing to continuous process improvement initiatives, including use of AI.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of ceded reinsurance claims from initial notification through final recovery and settlement.
  • Interpret treaty and facultative reinsurance contracts to determine coverage, reporting requirements, and recoverable amounts.
  • Prepare and submit accurate claim notices, proofs of loss, and supporting documentation to reinsurers and brokers.
  • Monitor and support collecting outstanding reinsurance recoverables, proactively following up outstanding issues when applicable.
  • Investigate and resolve complex claim discrepancies, coverage questions, and collection issues.
  • Collaborate with Claims, Underwriting, Finance, and Accounting to ensure accurate claim reporting and financial results.
  • Support ceded claim balances and support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
  • Analyze claims data and identify trends, exceptions, and opportunities for operational improvement and mitigating leakage.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with internal controls, regulatory requirements, and company policies. Participate in audits and provide supporting documentation as requested.
  • Assist with testing and implementation of system enhancements and process i mprovements.
  • Mentor junior team members by sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of ceded reinsurance/direct claims experience.
  • Understanding of treaty and facultative reinsurance preferred.
  • Experience interpreting reinsurance contracts terms and conditions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and claims/reinsurance administration systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision in fast paced environment.
Preferred
  • Experience with property and casualty direct and/or reinsurance claims experience
  • Knowledge of GAAP/statutory accounting related to reinsurance recoverables.
  • Experience working with brokers and/or global reinsurers.
  • Familiarity with process improvement methodologies and automation tools.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
