The USRM Data and Analytic Engineering (DAE) organization is seeking dynamic and forward-thinking Data Engineering People Leader to help shape the future of Personal Markets through the Frontier Program a bold, multi-year transformation initiative focused on radically simplifying and accelerating how we go to market. As part of this high-impact program, you'll lead Data Engineering efforts that power data insights and decision making across our Product, Pricing, Modeling and Distribution organizations.
You'll collaborate with cross-functional squads, tech leads, and architects to deliver scalable solutions that support our DAE roadmap and the Unified Insurance Platform (UIP), enabling smarter decisions, faster execution, and seamless customer experiences. This is a hybrid role requiring two days in the office a week in one of our tech hubs (Boston, MA, Portsmouth, NH, Plano, TX, Columbus, OH, and Indianapolis, IN)
Responsibilities:
- Lead Data Engineering Strategy : Partner in the design and lead execution of scalable data solutions that support the Frontier Program's transformation goals, including data curation, integration, and high-value analytics across domains.
- Collaborate Across Domains : Partner with domain champions, product owners, and tech leads to align data engineering efforts with PI planning goals, sprint cadences, and cross-functional dependencies.
- Mentor and Grow Talent : Lead and develop a high-performing data engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Advance AI-Driven Engineering : Champion the adoption of AI and machine learning within data engineering to enhance automation, analytics, and intelligent data processing. Collaborate with architecture and product teams to identify opportunities where AI can accelerate delivery, improve data quality, and unlock new business insights.
- Be a Change Advocate : Act as a champion for transformation by promoting a culture of agility, innovation, and continuous improvement. Help teams embrace new ways of working, navigate ambiguity, and adopt modern engineering practices aligned with the DAE Capability roadmap and Frontier Program goals. Influence stakeholders across business and technology to drive alignment, engagement, and momentum.
- Foster Collaborative Partnerships : Build strong, trust-based relationships across engineering, Data Office, architecture, and business teams. Act as a connector between squads and Data Office partners, ensuring alignment on priorities, dependencies, and delivery timelines. Facilitate open communication and shared ownership to drive integrated solutions that support USRM and DAE goals.
- Lead Talent Development: Coordinate and deliver performance reviews, drive professional growth, and facilitate mentoring opportunities across the team. Actively engage in recruiting processes, hire top-tier talent, and foster an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture
- Lead efforts across the DAE organization aligning with people, process and technology initiatives.
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in technical or business discipline.
- Minimum of 7+ years of Data delivery experience.
- Minimum 3 years in a leadership role preferred guiding agile squads through complex data delivery cycles in an agile environment.
- Able to manage complex technology development concepts, capabilities and maturity.
- Strong team building and people management skills in a matrixed and geographically dispersed organization. Demonstrated ability to operate collaboratively and build consensus.
- Requires excellent analytical ability, consultative communication, presentation and management skills, strong judgment, and ability to effectively liaise with cross functional stakeholders and optimize teams.

- In-depth knowledge of technology standards and guidelines; knowledge of management concepts, practices and techniques; thorough knowledge of business functions and operations, objectives and strategies.
- Knowledge of agile engineering practices, development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and tools (Jira).
- Strong process orientation with effective organizational, communication and presentation skills.
- In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies and their application to business opportunities.

- Experience leading multiple teams in a high paced Agile data delivery environment.
- Demonstrated leadership people skills: coaching, mentoring, culture of feedback.
- Experience leading development teams through modernization efforts.
- Experience leading data efforts for a P&C organization.
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and their application in data engineering workflows, including data quality automation, intelligent mapping, and synthetic data generation.
- Experience cultivating a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and delivery.
- Strong technical acumen and passion for engineering excellence.
- Experience of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Snowflake), data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data modeling.
Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
