Description

The NA Majors Casualty team is looking for a Manager, Actuary to drive Risk Management segment support within North America. In this role you will aid the business group's profit, growth, and operational objectives by evaluating & monitoring Portfolio performance and completing account pricing for large, complex risks. As owner of segment support you will build knowledge and expertise of the Risk Management portfolio to provide meaningful actuarial analysis around loss drivers, impact of business strategy, mix of business, etc. Driving efficiency and improvement in approaches to pricing Majors risks and tools to enable field underwriting to better understand technical premium will be a focus. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical and communication skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to execute thoroughly in a collaborative environment. In this role you will encounter a variety of responsibilities including collaboration with field underwriting, product, business stakeholders, internal LOB pricing partners and other subject matter experts. This position requires a highly organized, self-motivated individual with strong technical as well as verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with underwriting management, providing pricing and portfolio solutions to support profitability and growth goals.
  • Directly influence and engage in quarterly profit reviews, product planning and strategy evaluations, including quantification of UW strategies.
  • Perform complex actuarial analyses to assist business decision making and strategy development.
  • Enhance and execute large account pricing methods to supplement technical pricing for complex commercial Risk Management accounts. Drive continuous improvement of processes.
  • Provide clear and concise communication of technical actuarial work to underwriters, business stakeholders, and senior leadership along w/external brokers and customers (as needed).
  • Collaborate closely with pricing LOB teams to influence model accuracy and applicability for large, complex risks.
  • Deliver pricing model updates and portfolio impacts to underwriting partners. Proactively identify training opportunities; create & deliver content accordingly.
  • Manage 2-3 analysts and/or actuarial students.

  • Bachelor's degree required; Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) designation required or comparable actuarial education/designation combined with relevant experience.
  • 5-10 years progressively responsible experience, including supervisory experience
  • Ability to foster teamwork and relationships across organizational line
  • Knowledge of underwriting operations and casualty pricing.
  • Written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively express technical actuarial and statistical concepts to non-technical individuals internal and external to the organization
  • Advanced decision making, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong analytical skills with solid understanding of actuarial techniques, standards, and assumptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
