Description

Leidos' Data Center and Network Services (DCNS) within the Office of the Chief Information Officer, reporting through the Digital Modernization sector, has a career opportunity for an Team-Lead Engineer for the Platform Engineering team. The ideal candidate would have deep experience with designing, deploying, operating, and supporting corporate systems and ancillary applications. This position is a supervisory position within Leidos' DCNS Organization with a focus on development of future state of technology and ensuring the organization is adhering to best practices.

Location: This is a fully remote position that may require travel to Orlando, Florida, Dallas Texas, Virginia/DC area, or other locations to attend meetings.

Citizenship: US Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Platform Engineering Team Lead will provide both technical leadership and people management associated with the lifecycle of data center technology:

Leadership & Management

  • Supervisor for Platform and Tools Engineers within the organization
  • Mentoring and development of team members, fostering technical growth and career progression
  • Collaborating with the Architecture team in developing multi-year technology roadmaps for the organization
  • Work with leads in other sub-systems, customers, and process owners to ensure solution integration
  • Communicate complex technical ideas to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Manage the expectations of senior leadership, product teams, and end-users
  • Establish and maintain relationships with vendors and customers
  • Work in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and participate in Agile Team events, including providing leadership duties as required

Technical Responsibilities

  • Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, Ansible Automation Platform (AAP 2.x), or similar
  • Architect and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, and Jenkins, or similar
  • Design and optimize enterprise database platforms with high availability
  • Deploy and Manage Container technologies using Docker, Kubernetes, or similar for data center workloads
  • Develop automation scripts using Python 3.x, PowerShell 7.x, Bash for operational efficiency and system management
  • Oversee the lifecycle of corporate server operating systems (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7-10+, Ubuntu Server 18.04-26.04 LTS, & Windows Server 2016-2025+)
  • Ensure security compliance with CIS Benchmarks, DISA STIG, NIST frameworks, SCAP compliance, IRAT scans, SOC 2
  • Manage incident response that escalate or assist with them.

Documentation & Processes

  • Produce and maintain documentation of the data center environment, including as-built documentation, capacity/performance plans, as well as all other areas of server system life-cycle planning
  • Adhere to company policies and processes including change control, security, corporate policies, ITIL, and Sarbanes Oxley 404
  • Develop architectural design documents and technical standards for data center operations
  • Establish and enforce best practices for DevOps, configuration management, and deployment pipelines
  • Maintain system security practices and requirements to comply with corporate policies

Innovation & Optimization

  • Explore new technologies and make recommendations for their introduction into the data center environment
  • Identify opportunities for automation, cost optimization, and operational efficiency gains
  • Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and technology assessments
  • Ability to lead architectural design discussions and carry those designs through deployment and into operations

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline and 8+years of experience; or an associate's degree coupled with 10+ years of experience; or a High School diploma coupled with 12+ years of experience. Managerial or Team Lead experience preferred.
  • Solid knowledge and experience working with IT systems and is expected to already have in-depth specialized knowledge of specific IT systems engineering processes and practices.

Must have the following experience:

  • Enterprise data center operations and capacity planning
  • Experience with highly available enterprise systems and structured change management processes
  • High availability and disaster recovery implementation
  • Configuration management and deployment pipelines
  • Security compliance: CIS Benchmarks, DISA STIG, NIST frameworks, SCAP compliance
  • VMware vSphere 7.0+, ESXi 7.0+, vCenter 7.0+, Hyper-V
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform 1.0+, Ansible Automation Platform (AAP 2.x), Ansible Tower
  • CI/CD tools: GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins
  • Scripting: Python 3.x, PowerShell 7.x, Bash
  • Version control: Git with branching strategies and GitOps practices
  • Linux: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7-10+, Ubuntu Server 18.04-24.04 LTS+
  • Windows Server: 2016-2025+
  • Active Directory, Azure AD/Entra ID, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, DFS
  • Enterprise networking: TCP/IP, VLANs, VPN
  • MS SQL Server 2016-2022: Always-On Availability Groups
  • MySQL 8.0+ and/or PostgreSQL 13+, Oracle 19c+
  • Docker containerization
  • Kubernetes orchestration

  • Ability to lead architectural design discussions and carry those designs through deployment and into operations.
  • Certifications in relevant technologies.
  • Experience in budgeting and cost optimization.
  • SOC 2, FedRAMP, or other compliance framework implementation experience
  • Exposure to Data engineering, ETL pipelines, or related disciplines
  • Programming/development experience: Python, C#/.NET Core, Java, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript ASP.NET Core, React, Vue.js, Node.js

Pay Range:

Pay Range $131,300.00 - $237,350.00
