As an Application Support Engineer, you'll join a collaborative, technically curious team supporting and improving critical applications in a Linux-based environment.

This role is well suited to someone who already has foundational technical skills and wants to use them every day, deepen their capability, and build a long-term career in modern application support and observability.

You'll work across the full application lifecycle alongside developers, engineers, and stakeholders, contributing meaningfully from day one while continuing to grow your technical and professional skill set.

In this role, you'll be actively involved in the day-to-day health, performance, and improvement of applications, including:

  • Providing Level 2/3 application and systems support in a Linux/Unix environment, with a strong focus on proactive monitoring and performance management.
  • Owning incidents end-to-end, from triage and investigation through to resolution and post-incident review.
  • Performing root cause analysis of application and system issues, working closely with other ITSM service towers, developers, and end users to implement sustainable fixes.
  • Deploying software updates, patches, and fixes in line with approved change, release, and configuration management practices.
  • Working across the development and support lifecycle, collaborating with others to improve reliability, visibility, and supportability of applications.
  • Creating and maintaining clear operational and technical documentation to support ongoing operations and enable Level 1 Service Desk teams.

What You'll Get Out of the Role

This is a role designed for engineers who want to grow, not stagnate.

You can expect:

  • Structured learning and development, including project-supported training such as:
    • ITIL Foundations v5
    • Elastic Search / Observability Engineering
  • Dedicated learning time during work hours, actively encouraged and supported by the Team Lead.
  • Exposure to modern tooling and open-source technologies, with the opportunity to apply what you learn directly to real systems.
  • The ability to make meaningful contributions while your security clearance is in progress, rather than waiting on the sidelines.
  • Experience working in a team that values collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
  • Career-building exposure across application support, incident management, observability, and platform operations - skills that remain highly relevant across the industry.
  • A supportive team environment where development is recognised as part of your job, not something you do in your own time.

What You'll Bring to Make an Impact

You don't need to know everything on day one, but you will bring a solid technical foundation and a strong desire to continue learning.

Key requirements include:

  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting and resolving application issues in a production environment.
  • Experience supporting applications on Linux/Unix systems, or strong foundational knowledge with a desire to work in Linux environments every day.
  • Understanding of networks, protocols, and diagnostic tools used in application support.
  • Ability to use scripting or automation to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • A working understanding of how applications are built, deployed, supported, and improved across their lifecycle.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Eligibility to obtain an NV2 security clearance (you do not need to hold this clearance at the start).

Don't worry if you don't tick all the boxes - if you meet most of them, we encourage you to submit your application. We're most interested in your strengths, what you want to learn and how far you want to go.
