AI Governance Operations Lead

The Leidos Office of Technology (OOT) is seeking a highly organized, analytically strong, and execution-oriented Director of AI Governance to run and perform the core operational work of Leidos' AI Governance team and partnerships. This is a hands-on role focused on directly conducting AI use case intake, performing risk and governance assessments, and operating, monitoring, and improving AI governance processes. The Director will support the Vice President of AI Strategy and Governance by driving day-to-day execution of the governance roadmap and providing active, working-level support to the AI Governance Board and Sector-based governance teams.
This role requires strong familiarity with AI concepts, risk management, and governance frameworks; excellent communication skills; and the ability to translate complex governance information into clear and actionable insights. The candidate will regularly prepare and deliver reporting on Leidos' enterprise AI risk posture, use-case pipelines, governance activities, and compliance trends. And the candidate will also serve as a key thought leader in our AI governance practice, contributing to original research and writing on forward-leaning AI governance concepts in the field.

- Lead the AI governance intake and assessment process and drive the transformation into a fully automated system.
- Provide guidance to teams across the enterprise on AI intake requirements, assessment criteria, and governance expectations, helping stakeholders successfully navigate the governance process.
- Maintain clear and consistent documentation on assessment outcomes, required mitigations, and follow-up actions.
AI Governance Process Operations
- Drive the optimization, automation, and scaling of AI governance processes, including risk assessments, workflows, and compliance tracking.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, reduce manual effort, and enhance data reliability using the full suite of AI capabilities at Leidos and through our partners.
- Support the development and enhancement of governance tooling, dashboards, and systems.
AI Governance Board Support
- Prepare and facilitate the monthly AI Governance Board meetings, including agenda development, material preparation, decision support, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure AI Governance Board members are fully briefed on Leidos' enterprise AI posture, key risks, and topics requiring executive-level attention.
- Track actions and decisions generated from the Board meetings and ensure timely adjudication.
Enterprise AI Reporting
- Develop and maintain reporting on Leidos' AI risk posture, governance pipeline, policy compliance, and novel risk trends across the AI use case inventory.
- Respond to leadership requests for tailored AI governance or risk information, often under tight deadlines.
- Maintain an authoritative, always-current view of enterprise AI activities and associated risks.
Cross-Functional Communication & Alignment
- Coordinate communication across the Chief AI Office, Sector technology teams, legal, compliance, security, and business functions to ensure shared understanding and alignment.
- Help teams interpret AI governance requirements and integrate them into project planning and execution.
Continuous Improvement & Strategic Support
- Recommend improvements to enterprise AI governance and strategy informed by operational insights, data, and stakeholder feedback.
- Ensure Leidos remains aligned to emerging AI standards, policy (state, local, U.S. and international), and industry best practices.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of experience, or 10+ years with a Master's degree.
- Experience in AI governance, data governance, risk management, technology strategy, or related operational leadership roles.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex cross-functional processes and maintain high levels of operational rigor.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical or risk information into clear, concise, and actionable insights for audiences ranging from technical contributors to executives, including executive-ready reporting and presentations.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
- Background supporting governance boards, councils, or decision bodies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong familiarity with AI/ML concepts, model risk, and enterprise risk frameworks. Experience with the application of AI risk frameworks (e.g., NIST, etc.) is a bonus.
- Experience in a similarly sized and scoped enterprise, regulated environment, or technology-driven organization.
- Knowledge of emerging AI regulatory frameworks, risk management standards, and governance best practices.
- Familiarity with AI assurance, model evaluation, or AI-related compliance requirements.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $131,300.00 - $237,350.00
