Histotechnician Trainee

Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnician Trainee to join our team in Portland, OR.
Location: 1225 North East 2nd Avenue, Portland, OR
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
(Schedule may change upon completion of the trainee period based on department needs)
Job Responsibilities
- Assist with processing human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic examination
- Learn and perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
- Assist with sectioning embedded tissue using a microtome and mounting sections on microscope slides
- Learn routine and special staining procedures, including H&E staining, under supervision
- Assist with immunohistochemical procedures on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections as training progresses
- Learn proper orientation and embedding of surgical tissue specimens
- Assist with preparation of stains and reagents for routine and special procedures
- Support accurate and timely completion of work to ensure quality patient care
- Assist with operation and routine maintenance of manual and automated laboratory instruments
- Perform and document equipment maintenance, quality control, and preventive maintenance activities as directed
- Accurately complete required logs, documentation, and records in a timely manner
- Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
- Follow laboratory SOPs for specimen handling, processing, analysis, and reporting
- Document and communicate problems that may affect test performance and escalate as needed
- Comply with all laboratory safety policies and PPE requirements
- Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year or more experience working in a laboratory environment
- 1 year or more experience in a histology or pathology laboratory setting
- ASCP certification
Additional Job Standards
- Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols
- Experience working in a high-volume laboratory environment
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
- Willingness to learn in a structured training environment and meet competency expectations
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
