Histotechnician II

Overview:

• Performs necropsy and/or histology tasks on a variety of laboratory animals in compliance with the appropriate SOPs, GLPs, and regulatory guidelines

• Monitors animal health and welfare in compliance with the Animal Health and Welfare Act and help maintain facilities for AAALAC compliance

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs duties of necropsy

• Performs histology (Include trimming, decalcification, processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, coverslipping and QC)

• Performs necropsy and/or histology study responsibilities

• Performs other duties as assigned

• Report all animal care concern s and become involved in the resolution and appropriate corrective action, when necessary

• Responsible for Tox sample management, including handling, transferring, and inventory until archive.

Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences, or Associate Degree in Histology, Laboratory Animal Technology or Veterinary Technology plus twelve months experience; Experience may substitute for education

• Certification as a Histology Technician by ASCP or an AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician level is desirable

• At least six months' experience at the level equivalent to that of a Pathology Study Technician II
