The Role
Kyndryl is on the lookout for a Quality Assurance Software Engineer who is passionate about delivering top-notch cloud-based managed services to our clients. As a QA Software Engineer at Kyndryl, you will be at the forefront of ensuring that our software products meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and performance.
Your role will involve using your expertise to define test strategies, test specifications, test cases, and test plans based on design documentation, functional specifications, and high-level design documents. You will work closely with other engineering squads/tribes to develop new features and products, and ensure that the implemented components are feature, integration, and system tested before being released to our customers.
You will also be responsible for automating test cases to build test suits for regression, scalability, and performance testing. You will analyze, track, and verify defects during the software development lifecycle, and contribute to designing, developing, implementing, executing, and troubleshooting automated test tools, test frameworks, and test scripts for application and API testing.
As a QA Software Engineer at Kyndryl, you will be the go-to person for developing, executing, and maintaining automation tests for acceptance, functional, and regression test cases for the identified areas/modules/technology. You will also be responsible for accurately documenting and communicating issues to developers to facilitate elimination of problems and to create efficient fixes.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and Lead the QA Strategy: Design the comprehensive testing approach for modernization initiatives, including functional, integration, regression, and automated testing.
- Hybrid Environment Validation: Design and execute test cases that span legacy systems (DB2, VSAM) and modern cloud-native platforms, ensuring parity in business logic.
- Automation Framework Development: Design, implement, and maintain scalable automated testing frameworks for APIs, microservices, and front-end applications.
- Data Integrity & Reconciliation Testing: Lead the validation of complex data migration processes, ensuring data consistency and accuracy between source (Mainframe) and target (Cloud) systems.
- Performance & Scalability Guardrail: Collaborate in identifying performance bottlenecks during the functional validation phase in distributed environments.
- Test Data Management (TDM): Define strategies for the creation, obfuscation, and management of test data across heterogeneous platforms.
- Shift-Left Implementation: Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to ensure early detection of defects and continuous quality delivery.
- Technical Leadership: Provide guidance to junior QA engineers and collaborate with architects and developers to ensure "testability" is built into the system design.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with DevOps, Data Architects, and Business Analysts to align testing outcomes with program milestones and business requirements.

Required Skills & Experience
At least 5+ years of experience in:
1. Automation Engineering & Tools
- Core Languages: Advanced proficiency in Java (preferred), Python for test automation.
- Frameworks: Deep experience with Selenium Webdriver, Playwright, or Cypress., Karate
- API Testing: Strong expertise in automating REST/SOAP services using RestAssured, Postman, or Karate.
- Mobile Testing: (Optional but preferred) Experience with Appium for mobile application validation.
2. Modern Architecture & Cloud
- Microservices: Deep understanding of testing distributed architectures and event-driven systems.
- Cloud Platforms: Hands-on experience testing applications hosted on Azure (or AWS/GCP).
- Containers: Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes for managing test environments.
- CI/CD Integration: Experience integrating test suites into tools like Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or GitLab CI.
3. Legacy & Database Testing
- Mainframe Literacy: Ability to navigate and validate data in DB2 (Mainframe) and VSAM files.
- Query Proficiency: Advanced SQL skills for complex data validation, reconciliation, and backend testing (PostgreSQL, DB2, SingleStore).
- Batch Processing: Experience validating COBOL-based batch jobs and their transition to modern scheduled tasks.
4. QA Methodology & Strategy
- Modernization Testing: Proven experience in Parallel Running and Shadow Testing strategies during legacy-to-cloud migrations.
- Testing Types: Mastery of BDD (Behavior Driven Development) using Cucumber/Gherkin.
- Defect Management: Expert use of Jira, Azure Test Plans, or ALM for lifecycle tracking and reporting.
