SAP MM / BPO Functional Analyst - AMS

The Role

1) Incident and Request Management (AMS)

  • Analyze and resolve functional incidents in SAP MM, related to:

    • Purchasing and procurement (PR/PO)
    • Material and vendor master data
    • Inventory management
    • Goods receipts, valuation, and logistics movements
  • Handle functional requests and minor enhancements aligned with P2P business processes.
  • Monitor and validate data flows between SAP MM and external systems using IDocs/EDI, RFC, OData/APIs (SAP PO/CPI middleware desirable), ensuring data consistency and quality.
  • Manage tickets according to priority, impact, and SLAs, maintaining clear communication with business users, BPOs, and technical teams.

2) Functional Analysis and Process Management (BPO Focus)

  • Act as the functional reference for the Procure‑to‑Pay process, ensuring SAP MM configuration and operations are aligned with business‑defined processes.
  • Review and validate SAP MM functional configurations, including:

    • Calculation schemas
    • Account determination
    • Movement types
    • Account assignment categories and purchasing documents
  • Validate P2P process flow integrity, including FI/CO integration (account postings, taxes, financial postings).
  • Analyze functional impacts of changes or incidents from an end‑to‑end process perspective, identifying root causes and operational risks.
  • Document findings, deviations, process decisions, and applied solutions, ensuring traceability and operational control.

3) Technical and Business Coordination within the SAP Ecosystem

  • Collaborate with ABAP teams to implement functional adjustments (user‑exits, BADIs, reports, interfaces, forms).
  • Coordinate with integration teams (PO/CPI), Basis/infrastructure, and other SAP modules (FI/CO, LE, WM/EWM, PP) when P2P process dependencies exist.
  • Facilitate communication between business and IT, translating operational needs into clear functional requirements.
  • Provide end‑to‑end follow‑up until actions are fully resolved and closed.

4) Documentation and Operational Compliance

  • Maintain up‑to‑date functional and process documentation, including:

    • SAP MM configurations
    • Operating procedures
    • KEDs/KBAs
    • AMS support evidence
  • Prepare information and supporting materials for audits, change controls, and IT reviews, ensuring compliance with internal standards.

5) Support for Testing, Changes, and Releases

  • Participate in SIT/UAT for corrective and evolutionary changes in SAP MM.
  • Design and execute functional test cases from a business process perspective.
  • Validate functional deliverables and coordinate deployments, cutover activities, and post‑release stabilization (hypercare).
  • Support regression testing to ensure stability of the P2P process.

6) Continuous Improvement of the Process and AMS Service

  • Identify opportunities to optimize the Procure‑to‑Pay process and SAP MM configuration.
  • Propose improvements aimed at:

    • Reducing recurring incidents
    • Increasing operational efficiency
    • Improving process traceability and control
    • Meeting and enhancing SLA compliance
  • Contribute to the evolution of the AMS service from a process‑ and business‑oriented perspective.

Who You Are

Required Knowledge and Skills

Functional Knowledge (Mandatory)

  • SAP MM (ECC & S/4HANA):

    • Purchasing and procurement processes (PR/PO)
    • Material and vendor master data management
    • Inventory management, goods movements, and valuation

      • Understanding of ECC classic data model and S/4HANA simplified data model (MATDOC) is desirable
    • Account determination and internal logistics processes
  • BPO-level understanding of the Procure-to-Pay (P2P) process, with the ability to manage and support:

    • End-to-end process flows
    • Business controls and compliance requirements
    • Cross-functional dependencies
    • Operational and financial risks
  • MM-FI/CO integration (ECC & S/4HANA):

    • Account postings
    • Tax determination
    • Logistics-to-finance postings and reconciliation
  • Interface and operational monitoring (ECC & S/4HANA):

    • IDoc/EDI processing and monitoring (WE02 / WE05)
    • Background job monitoring (SM37)
    • Application and system logs (SLG1, ST22, SM13, SM21)

Technical Knowledge (Desirable)

  • Monitoring and troubleshooting integrations using SAP PO/CPI or other middleware platforms, including message flows, mappings, and adapters.
  • Basic ABAP debugging skills to support functional root cause analysis in ECC and S/4HANA environments.
  • Basic SQL and data analysis skills to support functional diagnostics, reconciliations, and incident investigation.
  • General understanding of S/4HANA architecture and performance considerations (desirable).

Methodologies and Tools

  • ITIL-based practices applied to AMS services, including:

    • Incident Management
    • Problem Management
    • Change Management
  • Ticketing and collaboration tools commonly used in AMS environments:

    • ServiceNow
    • SAP Solution Manager
    • Jira / Confluence
  • Knowledge of SAP S/4HANA and SAP Fiori applications (desirable).
  • Experience with LATAM localizations and tax scenarios (desirable).

Soft Skills

  • Strong functional analysis with a clear business process focus.
  • Ability to act as a bridge between business and IT, typical of a BPO-oriented role.
  • Clear and effective communication with business users, stakeholders, and technical teams.
  • Accurate documentation skills and disciplined follow-up on operational procedures.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and a service- and results-oriented mindset, aligned with AMS delivery models.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or Engineering in Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience providing SAP functional support within an AMS model.
  • 3+ years of experience, with a strong focus on SAP MM and Procure-to-Pay processes in ECC and/or S/4HANA environments.
  • Solid understanding of operational and logistics processes from a business (BPO) perspective.
  • Basic English required; intermediate level desirable for documentation review and user interaction.
