The Role
The successful candidate will join the SBA/TEL/msg Application area, a multidisciplinary operations and support team responsible for managing subsystem behaviour analytics, telephony (SIP/VoIP), and messaging applications. The team ensures reliable communication infrastructure and proactive incident resolution across both Linux and Windows environments. The IT Application Specialist will be responsible for the smooth operation and support of life insurance-related applications, with a primary focus on the msg.Life Factory policy administration system. The role involves managing complex incidents, coordinating with infrastructure and development teams, and ensuring high availability and performance of production systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage complex incidents, including specification checks, coordination with 3rd party providers and root cause analysis (RCA) of the problem ticket.
- Provide support for production issues and perform detailed application log analysis.
- Implement change requests and fulfil both standard and non-standard service requests.
- Support infrastructure teams during patching and maintenance activities.

- Document progress and actions in JIRA and maintain clear communication with stakeholders.
- Plan, prepare, and execute releases and deployments in RUN environments.
- Manage application lifecycle tasks such as start/stop operations during deployments.
- Conduct shakedown tests post-deployment to ensure system stability.
- Monitor system health and performance. Proactively monitor and address issues related to SBA/TEL and messaging applications.
- Check and resolve issues related to Kubernetes resources.
- Participate in regular meetings with internal and external parties.
- Maintain a complete understanding of the relevant processes.
- Demonstrate strong troubleshooting capabilities across diverse technologies.
- Plan future activities, including runbook preparation and dependency mapping.
- Actively contribute to ongoing projects and execute workarounds as needed.
- Participate in vulnerability mitigation efforts through patching and upgrades.
- Automate routine tasks to improve operational efficiency.
- Provide prompt support to testing teams in both RUN and BUILD environments.
- Assist BUILD teams on lower stages with issue resolution and environment support.
- Ensure documentation for SBA and Telephony components is accurate and up to date.
- Act as a dispatcher for incoming incidents, performing initial analysis and assigning to the appropriate technical area.
Required Skills
- Solid foundational knowledge of operating systems, particularly Linux and Windows.
- Proficiency in writing and understanding SQL queries.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts.
- Hands-on experience with tools such as ServiceNow (SNOW), JIRA, and Confluence.
- In-depth knowledge and practical application of ITIL processes, including Incident, Problem, Change, and Release Management.
- Experience working with hyperscaler environments, with a focus on IBM Cloud.
- At least a theoretical understanding of container technologies, especially Kubernetes.
- Basic familiarity with Batch Management principles and tools.
- Experience with middleware technologies, particularly Tomcat, Apache, JBoss, and WebSphere.
Optional Skills
- Prior experience working with msg.Insurance Suite.
- Familiarity with SIP/VoIP technologies in a telephony context.
- Experience using Kazimir or Wireshark for debugging and network analysis.
- Exposure to Genesys platforms and technologies.
- Working knowledge of monitoring and logging tools such as Kibana, Elasticsearch, Prometheus, and Grafana.
Who You Are
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Equivalent work experience in IT operations or application support may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in IT application support, preferably in the insurance or financial services sector.
- Proven experience in managing enterprise applications in production environments.
- Experience working in ITIL-based environments.
