ABAP Developer - AMS Application Support

The Role

The SAP ABAP Technical Analyst is responsible for providing technical support and development across the SAP modules implemented within the organization. The role involves analyzing, correcting, and enhancing programs, function modules, interfaces, forms, user exits, enhancements, and custom objects. The analyst also actively participates in testing cycles, technical validations, release activities, and stabilization processes within the AMS model, ensuring alignment with corporate standards, best practices, and business requirements.

Main Responsibilities

1) Technical Incident and Request Management (AMS)

  • Analyze, diagnose, and resolve incidents related to ABAP developments, including reports, interfaces, function modules, BADIs, BAPIs, user exits, and other custom enhancements.
  • Handle technical requests by assessing impact, feasibility, effort, and alignment with development standards.
  • Provide support and corrective actions for technical objects that interact with various SAP functional modules (FI, MM, SD, PP, HR, CAR, PI/PO, etc.).

2) ABAP Object Development and Maintenance

  • Perform adjustments, corrections, and enhancements to existing ABAP developments, including:
    • Classical and ALV reports
    • Interfaces (RFC, IDoc, API)
    • Forms (SmartForms, Adobe Forms, SAPScript)
    • Enhancements (User Exits, BADIs, Enhancement Points)
    • Batch Jobs
    • OData services (when applicable)
  • Review technical dependencies and ensure compatibility across SAP components.

3) Technical Validation and Testing

  • Participate in functional and technical testing (SIT/UAT), validating the correct operation of developments and applied fixes.
  • Ensure technical quality through code reviews, performance validation, consistency checks, and adherence to standards.
  • Prepare technical evidence and document results for each testing cycle.

4) Cross‑functional Collaboration and Support

  • Collaborate with functional analysts across modules and technical teams (PI/PO, Basis, DBAs, Integration) to jointly resolve incidents.
  • Provide technical support during release activities, maintenance windows, and post‑release stabilization.
  • Maintain clear communication with key users and IT teams to ensure accurate understanding of requirements.

5) Technical Documentation and Operational Compliance

  • Document developed or modified objects, including technical specifications, diagrams, process flows, dependencies, and evidence.
  • Maintain the team's technical repository updated and aligned with governance standards.
  • Ensure compliance with versioning policies, transport procedures, and change‑control guidelines within the AMS model.

6) Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for improvement in code quality, performance, integrations, and technical processes.
  • Propose refinements or refactoring to enhance stability, efficiency, and traceability.
  • Contribute to standardization, automation, and operational improvement initiatives.

  • Batch Jobs & Background Processing

Integrations and Connectivity

  • IDocs (structure, processing, debugging)
  • APIs / OData Services (preferred)
  • Familiarity with SAP PI/PO or SAP CPI integration scenarios (preferred)

SAP Tools

  • SE80, SE38, SE37, SE24, SE11, SE41, SE93
  • ST22, SM37, SM36, WE02/WE05, SE16/SE16H

Additional Preferred Skills

  • Advanced debugging
  • Performance tuning and optimization
  • Basic SQL and data structure knowledge
  • Understanding of organizational development standards
  • Familiarity with ITIL practices and AMS operating models

Soft Skills

  • Strong technical analysis and structured problem‑solving
  • Clear communication with functional and technical teams
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Capability to solve complex technical issues

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • SAP ABAP certification or SAP Learning Hub training (preferred)
  • ITIL certification (preferred)

Experience

  • Prior experience providing technical SAP support within an AMS model
  • Demonstrable experience in ABAP development (5+ years)
  • Experience maintaining SAP production environments
  • Preferred experience in implementation, rollout, or stabilization projects
  • Experience in retail environments and familiarity with Palacio de Hierro operational procedures (preferred)

Work Model

  • Participation in maintenance windows and after‑hours support when required
  • Ongoing interaction with global or cross‑functional teams
  • Availability to support activities in the event of Priority 1 incidents.
