Division Food Safety Manager I - Central
JOB DESCRIPTION
Serve as the food safety subject matter expert and continually engage with operations, merchandising, and stores to ensure the safety of our customers and protect our brand. Participate in new perishable merchandising program development. Develop, update and administer food safety training to all levels of the organization. Serve on professional food safety committees and food retail trade organizations. Evaluate/act on third-party food safety audit data to drive improvements to current food safety programs. Demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop/execute projects that will improve the overall food safety performance of the division
- Execute requirements from corporate food safety team for audit effectiveness checks, timely reporting of activities/metrics, and attendance on period calls
- Evaluate store processes, observe employee practices, and review compliance of food merchandising programs to ensure that food safety/sanitation policies, practices, and procedures are executed
- Recommend food safety measures for new merchandising plans, food production processes, new store designs, and new technologies to be appropriate in enhancing the safe handling of perishable foods within the store
- Proactive in developing good working relationships with regulatory agencies; partnership on educating consumers, serving on local health department committees, and other activities that will demonstrate Kroger's commitment to food safety in the community
- Ensure that food safety training programs from Basic Food Safety to the Certified Managers training programs are customized to division specific programs and are up to date
- Communicate relevant food safety concerns to operations, merchandising, and store employees
- Maintain food safety content within the division's internal website; include corporate and division policies, best practices, food safety resources, contact lists, etc.
- Keep key personnel informed of the latest scientific, technical, and practical developments in food safety/sanitation
- Active member of committees in the retail food industry and their trade organizations
- Provide consumers with access to food safety education materials
- Obtain advanced Food Safety knowledge by completing an academia, government or industry sponsored certificate or certification related to food science or food safety.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum
- Bachelor's degree in food science or a related science field, or relative retail experience in food operations
- 3+ years of food safety management experience in retail, regulatory, or QSR
- Knowledge of food safety principles relating to the FDA food Code and local regulations
- Experience with food handling risk assessment and HACCP management in perishable departments
- Current Certified Professional in Food Safety (CP-FS) certification (or obtain within six months of assuming position)
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, excellent presentation, oral/written communications skills
Desired
- Working knowledge of store operations, food safety and microbiological concepts
- Conversant in FDA Food Code and appropriate State Health Regulations
