As a Vice President, Mergers & Acquisitions and Capital Markets Lawyer in the APAC Banking Legal team, you provide legal support for M&A and capital markets activities across Asia Pacific. You work closely with stakeholders in Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia, delivering practical legal solutions for public and private transactions. You collaborate with colleagues across the region and globally, helping us maintain a best-in-class governance framework and drive business success.

This role is posted at Vice President; however, candidates with fewer years of experience may be considered and hired at an appropriate level in line with experience.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide legal support for M&A transactions across Asia Pacific, focusing on stakeholders in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Southeast Asia
- Advise on legal matters where the firm acts as financial adviser to corporate, financial sponsors, and sovereign wealth fund clients
- Support internal M&A and strategic investment activities
- Assist with equity and debt capital markets transactions across the region
- Collaborate with legal colleagues in Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Sydney, Seoul, Shanghai, and Mumbai, as well as teams in other regions
- Review, negotiate, and draft legal documentation including confidentiality agreements, mandate letters, share purchase and subscription agreements, and placing and underwriting agreements
- Manage relationships with external counsel, including reviewing and negotiating legal opinions and supervising legal due diligence
- Advise business teams on legal and reputational risk issues, coordinating with risk and control functions to support sound decision-making
- Keep abreast of legal and regulatory developments and contribute to internal trainings and process enhancements
- Promote best practices and help enhance internal processes
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Qualified lawyer from a common law or US jurisdiction with at least 7 years post-qualification experience
- Experience in M&A and/or capital markets at a major international law firm or leading financial institution
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and legal analytical skills with keen attention to detail
- Ability to balance commercial objectives with the protection of the firm's interests
- Excellent written and spoken English, with outstanding communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage matters across time zones with regional and global stakeholders
- Proven ability to handle competing priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Fluency in Chinese (Mandarin) is preferred for reviewing and negotiating Chinese-language documents
- Experience in Hong Kong public takeovers and Hong Kong IPOs
- Experience supporting equity and debt capital markets transactions in APAC
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks across Asia Pacific
- Demonstrated strategic thought leadership in legal practice
- Experience managing external counsel relationships
- Ability to deliver practical, business-focused legal solutions
