As a Transactions Screening Associate in Payment Operations, you will review wire transfers and investment bank transactions, conduct research to identify true sanctions matches, and support the implementation of anti-money laundering and sanctions initiatives. You'll advise business partners, manage local sanctions lists, and participate in projects related to regulatory compliance. You will play a key role in maintaining a strong control environment and ensuring the firm meets global and local regulatory requirements.

Job responsibilities

  • Research and review transactions flagged by sanctions screening systems to determine true matches to sanctioned entities
  • Collaborate with Global Financial Crimes Compliance and Regional Sanctions Officers to assess and resolve potential sanctions issues
  • Conduct research to determine sanctions requirements in Asia, the United States, and Europe, Middle East, and Africa regions
  • Assist in implementing Office of Foreign Assets Control and sanctions initiatives, including quality assurance and policy reviews
  • Advise on and help establish screening procedures within business units
  • Manage local sanctions lists in partnership with compliance teams
  • Provide remote support up to 19:00 Tokyo time on a rotational basis
  • Communicate clearly with local and regional stakeholders regarding required actions after reviews
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and drive implementation of operational changes
  • Maintain individual and team throughput and quality targets, ensuring deadlines are met
  • Exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and promote a strong control mindset

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 3 years of experience in legal, compliance, or banking operations roles
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical ability
  • Excellent communication skills in Japanese and English, both written and verbal
  • Ability to identify sanctions-related issues and offer solutions
  • Initiative to research and substantiate opinions, and provide recommendations on global sanctions processes
  • Flexibility to work outside standard hours, including some public holidays, as required
  • Willingness to accept new assignments and adapt in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to meet throughput and quality targets while maintaining high standards of confidentiality and control

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Basic knowledge of Office of Foreign Assets Control and Asia sanctions requirements
  • Experience in sanctions review and use of sanctions screening systems
  • Familiarity with banking, cash management, or correspondent banking business
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed
  • Experience supporting process improvement or automation initiatives
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to compliance challenges
  • Experience working in a multicultural or cross-regional team environment
