Software Engineer III - Mainframe Application Developer, DB2, Cobol

As a Software Engineer III at JPMorganChase within the Corporate Sector, you serve as a seasoned member of an agile team to design and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You are responsible for carrying out critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm's business objectives.You will play a key role in supporting systems that house millions of Prime Brokerage and Wealth Management client account reference data. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with mainframe technologies and a strong understanding of distributed systems.

Job responsibilities

  • Executes software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain mainframe applications to ensure high performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Utilize expertise in mainframe technologies such as Cobol, CICS, DB2, VSAM, MQ messaging, Stored procedures, DB2 Utilities, JCL, ChangeMan, NDM, and other file transfer mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate distributed technologies and AI tools into mainframe systems, improving functionality and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices in mainframe technology and data management.
  • Participate in system optimization, data integrity, and security initiatives.
  • Monitor application performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure uninterrupted service.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders regarding project progress, challenges, and solutions.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on Mainframe concepts and 3+ years applied experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Extensive hands-on experience with mainframe technologies and tools, including Cobol, CICS, DB2, VSAM, MQ messaging, Stored procedures, DB2 Utilities, JCL, ChangeMan, NDM, and file transfer mechanisms.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Hands-on practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience with distributed technologies and AI tools is highly desirable.
  • Advanced degree in a Computer Science related field preferred
