Software Engineer III IT Architecture

5As software engineer IT Architect in our IT Architecture Group, you will work closely with senior architects and engineering teams to implement proof-of-concept (PoC) and pilot projects, contribute to the design and development of platform features, and support the evolution of our automated tax-smart investing platform. This position is ideal for candidates with strong technical skills, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for learning and innovation in AWS cloud-native architecture.
Job responsibilities:
- Implement PoC and pilot projects for new platform features and technologies under the guidance of senior architects.
- Contribute to architecture documentation , including class diagrams, data architecture, functional architecture, and application architecture.
- Support the design and development of microservices for automated investment workflows.
- Assist in optimizing data pipelines for portfolio management and tax-smart investing, including Airflow DAG implementation.
- Participate in the development of machine learning platforms for quantitative analytics, integrating with portfolio management solutions.
- Help maintain data warehouse and data lake solutions for analytics and reporting (Redshift, Snowflake, etc.).
- Support observability solutions (monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting) to ensure system health and performance. Contribute to the implementation of non-functional requirements (NFRs) for performance, scalability, reliability, and security. Collaborate with product, engineering, and data teams to deliver robust, scalable solutions.
- Engage with stakeholders across business, product, and technology teams to ensure alignment and transparency. Assist in evaluating and integrating AWS services, Kafka, RabbitMQ, and Redis into platform architecture. Participate in Python upgrade automation and ensure compatibility across services and platforms. Support the maintenance of Technology Inventory, Reusable Components, Technology Radar, and Approved Patterns as part of the architecture team.
- Document and track Architecture Decision Records (ADR) for key architectural decisions. Follow best practices in security, compliance, cloud-native development, and observability. Identify and communicate technical debt and contribute to remediation plans. Contribute to data modeling and design efforts to ensure optimal database performance for both transactional and analytical data stores.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:
- Minimum 6 years of hands-on experience in software engineering or architecture roles.
- Proficiency in Python and database technologies like AWS Aurora (SQL, NoSQL).
- Experience in data modeling and database design for both transactional and analytical workloads.
- Database tuning for optimal platform performance to meet Non-functional requirements. Experience with public cloud (AWS) services (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, ECS, etc.). Familiarity with distributed messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
- Experience with Redis for caching and real-time data processing. Experience in microservices design and implementation.
- Data warehouse experience (Redshift, Snowflake, etc.). Experience with container deployment technologies: ECS, Fargate, or Kubernetes.
- Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog). Exposure to machine learning platforms for quantitative analytics.
- Experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices. Experience with Airflow DAGs and data pipeline optimization.
- Experience automating Python upgrades across distributed systems. Experience creating and maintaining architecture documentation, including class diagrams and architectural models. Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills:
- Experience in financial services, asset management, or fintech.
- Knowledge of tax-smart investing concepts and portfolio management.
- AWS certification or equivalent cloud credentials.
