55ip is seeking a hands-on Senior Vice President for our IT Architecture Group. You will play a key leadership role in designing and scaling our automated tax-smart investing platform, leveraging public cloud (AWS) infrastructure, and driving architectural excellence across domains. This role requires advanced technical expertise, strategic vision, and strong stakeholder management and communication skills. You will be responsible for engaging with cross-functional stakeholders to align technology solutions with business objectives and ensure successful delivery, while maintaining comprehensive architecture documentation and standards.
As 55ip continues its rapid growth trajectory, we are on the path to managing over $1 trillion in assets under supervision (AUS) by 2030. This scale brings significant challenges and opportunities, including supporting exponential increases in accounts, net flows, revenue, and pre-tax income. Our technology platform must evolve to handle this growth, ensuring robust performance, reliability, and automation for tax-smart investing portfolios across diverse product mixes and client segments.
Job responsibilities:
- Conduct architecture reviews and recommend improvements for scalability, reliability, performance, and observability across multiple domains on Public Cloud. Lead and enforce the ADRP (Architecture Design Review Process) to ensure all solutions meet architectural standards and business needs. Oversee the Review Pipeline for architecture and technology initiatives, ensuring timely and thorough evaluation of new proposals and changes.
- Design and optimize domain architectures to support business growth and evolving product requirements.
- Lead PoC and pilot projects for new platform features and technologies, including AI implementation initiatives.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive architecture documentation, including class diagrams, data architecture, functional architecture, application architecture, and technical architecture.
- Architect and optimize data pipelines for high-volume, low-latency portfolio management and tax-smart investing, including Airflow DAG design and orchestration.
- Architect and implement microservices for automated investment workflows.
- Design and develop machine learning platforms for quantitative analytics, integrating with portfolio management and tax-smart investing solutions.
- Develop and maintain data warehouse, data lake solutions for analytics and reporting (Redshift, Snowflake, etc.).
- Implement and enhance observability solutions (monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting) to ensure system health and performance.
- Define and enforce non-functional requirements (NFRs) for performance, scalability, reliability, and security across all technology solutions and ensure the right architecture to meet those NFR's
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and data teams to deliver robust, scalable solutions.
- Engage and manage stakeholders across business, product, and technology teams to ensure alignment, transparency, and successful delivery of technology initiatives.
- Evaluate and integrate AWS services, Kafka, RabbitMQ, and Redis into platform architecture.
- Technical Debt : Identify and assess technical debt across platforms and solutions, and develop actionable plans to remediate existing debt. Automate Python upgrades and ensure compatibility across services and platforms.
- Establish and enforce architectural standards and best practices to prevent technical debt in new designs and implementations.
- Maintain and manage the Technology Inventory to ensure visibility and control over all technology assets and components.
- Promote and implement Reusable Components to drive efficiency, consistency, and faster delivery across platforms.
- Maintain and update the Technology Radar to track emerging technologies, trends, and adoption status within the organization.
- Ensure adherence to Approved Patterns for solution design and implementation, fostering standardization and best practices.
- Create and manage Architecture Decision Records (ADR) to document key architectural decisions, rationale, and impacts.
- Be able to create horizontal influence by working with wide feature teams in collaborative manner.
- Mentor and guide junior team members; promote best practices in security, compliance, cloud-native development, and observability.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
- Hands on practical experience delivering software engineering and architecture solutions.
- Experience in data modeling and database design for both transactional (OLTP) and analytical databases, with a focus on optimizing performance.
- Advanced proficiency in Python and database technologies (SQL, NoSQL).
- Strong experience with public cloud (AWS) services (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, ECS etc).
- Expertise in distributed messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
- Experience with Redis for caching and real-time data processing.
- Proven track record in microservices design and implementation.
- Data warehouse design and optimization experience (Redshift, Snowflake, etc.).
- Experience with container deployment technologies: ECS, Fargate, and Kubernetes.
- Experience implementing observability tools and practices (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog).
- Experience designing and developing machine learning platforms for quantitative analytics.
- Experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices.
- Experience with Airflow DAGs and data pipeline optimization.
- Experience automating Python upgrades across distributed systems.
- Experience creating and maintaining architecture documentation, including class diagrams and architectural models.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills:
- Experience in financial services, asset management, or fintech.
- Knowledge of tax-smart investing concepts and portfolio management.
- AWS certification or equivalent cloud credentials.
