Senior Manager of Software Engineering

As a team Senior Manager of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase on the Calypso team, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor and people leader, you are responsible for building and sustaining a high performance engineering team, conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm's business objectives. The Calypso team is building a managed infrastructure platform that simplifies and standardises how application teams across JPMC provision and operate cloud resources, with a core goal of reducing the infrastructure toil and Technology Lifecycle Management burden carried by application teams today. As team lead, you will balance hands-on technical contribution with people management, mentoring, and cross-team coordination.

Job responsibilities

Builds and sustains a high performance engineering team through structured hiring, onboarding, regular one-to-ones, performance development, and active coaching of engineers at all levels
Creates an environment where engineers are empowered to do their best work, with clear goals, rapid feedback loops, and a culture of continuous improvement
Develops secure and high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others
Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems
Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture
Adds to team culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

Demonstrated experience leading or line-managing high performance software engineering teams in an agile environment
Formal cloud training or certification on software engineering concepts and applied experience

Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, operational stability, scalability
Advanced in one or more programming language(s) such as go, java, python, terraform
Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods
Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle
Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Applicant Resiliency, and Security
Demonstrated knowledge of software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., API development, AWS cloud, Kubernetes, platform engineering)

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

Practical cloud native experience
Background in platform engineering or internal developer platforms
