As a Senior Executive Director of Payments Engineering within the Commercial and Investment Banking (CIB) Technology team at JPMorgan Chase, you will set and execute the technical vision for mission-critical payment platforms that serve the world's largest corporations and financial institutions. You will lead multiple engineering teams, drive large-scale transformation initiatives, and ensure our payments technology delivers seamless, secure, and innovative solutions. Your leadership will be pivotal in aligning engineering strategy with business objectives, championing best-in-class practices, and fostering a culture of excellence, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
Job responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Define and communicate the technical vision and architectural roadmap for CIB Payments Engineering, ensuring alignment with business strategy and firmwide technology objectives while leading the design, development, and deployment of complex, cross-departmental payment technology solutions, driving modernization, automation, and digital transformation initiatives.
- Organizational Management: Directly manage multiple engineering teams, providing mentorship, career development, and performance management for a diverse group of technologists while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement across global teams.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a key interface with senior leaders, stakeholders, and executives, building consensus and driving decision-making across competing priorities while orchestrating large-scale, cross-product collaborations, managing multiple stakeholders and complex project portfolios to deliver high-impact outcomes.
- Technical Excellence: Champion engineering best practices, cloud-native architectures, and modern software development methodologies, ensuring platforms are robust, scalable, and secure.
- Hands-on Leadership: Partner with architects and senior engineers to define system designs and technical strategies and review and guide engineering design, code, and implementations, ensuring adherence to best practices in architecture, testing, security, resilience, and performance.
- Risk & Compliance: Ensure all payment systems and technology solutions adhere to regulatory requirements, operational risk standards, and cybersecurity best practices while proactively identifying and mitigating technology risks.
- Talent Development: Attract, hire, and retain top talent; foster a culture of learning, innovation, and recognition; and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion across the organization.
- Financial & Resource Management: Manage budgets, resource allocation, and vendor relationships to optimize delivery and cost efficiency.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experience. In addition, 5+ year of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise and more broadly across the organization.
- Proven track record of managing high-performing engineering teams in a large-scale, matrixed organization.
- Experience leading complex projects supporting system architecture, design, testing, and operational stability.
- Extensive hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies, distributed systems, and modern software engineering practices.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and drive outcomes across multiple business lines, product teams, and technology domains.
- Strong background in risk management, compliance, and secure software development.
- Experience with global payment networks, real-time payments, and digital wallets.
- Experience hiring, developing, and recognizing talent while prioritizing helpfulness, mentorship, and team development
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Experience working at code level, with mastery of enterprise-grade languages (Java, Python preferred).
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
- Experience working in highly regulated environments.
- Background working with global and distributed teams.
- Action-oriented, decisive, and drives results systematically.
- Detail-oriented, able to distinguish between important and urgent tasks.
