Lead Software Engineer - Java Full Stack & AWS

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Machine Learning and Intelligence Operations Virtual Agent Assist team, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology product in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for developing critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas in support of the firm's business objectives.
Job responsibilities
- Executes creative software solutions through full-stack design, development, and technical troubleshooting, leveraging Java (Spring Boot, REST APIs) and front-end technologies (React, Angular) to solve complex problems and innovate beyond conventional approaches.
- Develops secure, high-quality production code in Java and JavaScript/TypeScript, and reviews and debugs code written by others to ensure robust, maintainable applications across backend and frontend layers.
- Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues using Java-based automation tools and front-end monitoring solutions, improving overall operational stability of software applications and systems.
- Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectural designs, technical credentials, and integration potential with existing Java microservices and modern front-end frameworks.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of building full stack web applications
- Advanced proficiency in programming languages, specifically Java and React.
- Expertise in infrastructure provisioning with Terraform and hands-on experience building and deploying CI/CD pipelines.
- Proven track record in developing enterprise applications with high availability and performance using Spring, ORM frameworks, Kafka and Redis distributed caching solutions.
- Practical experience with UI frameworks such as React. Knowledge in Micro Front End architecture.
- Strong skills in SQL and database development.
- Knowledge in writing unit/integration/automated test cases using Junit, Cucumber, Selenium and Playwright
- Experience managing technologists and building large-scale enterprise applications, including cloud-native solutions based on the 12-factor methodology, extending beyond simple REST endpoint exposure.
- Hands-on experience in system design, application development, testing, and ensuring operational stability
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Proficient in developing applications with Spring Boot and Java technologies.
- Proficient in building single-page web applications using ReactJS and micro-frontend architecture.
- Strong AWS expertise, including hands-on use of ECS, Kafka, S3, DynamoDB, RDS, and ElastiCache
- Experienced in mentoring junior developers, conducting code reviews, and resolving technical issues.
- Knowledgeable in Python, Generative AI and Agentic AI technologies would be a nice to have skill.
