As a Lead Data Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within Commercial & Investment Bank - Digital Platform Services, you are an integral part of the team that innovates new product offerings and leads the end-to-end product life cycle. Utilizing your deep understanding of how to get a product off the ground, you will guide the successful launch of products, gather crucial feedback, and ensure top-tier client experiences. In this role you will ensure a strong commitment to Reliability, Availability, Quality, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products that exceed customer expectations.

Job responsibilities

  • Working knowledge of end-to-end data flow across Ingestion to Consumption and articulation of changes required as part of new requirements.
  • Guide technical design decisions for data ingestion, transformation, storage & consumption layers.
  • Defines and monitors SLOs for data freshness, latency, and availability.
  • Owns, maintains, and develops a product backlog that enables development to support the overall strategic roadmap and value proposition.
  • Manages end to end testing and reconciliations to ensure Data Quality & Zero data loss.
  • Analyzes data across domains and presents in a way that tells a story and enables decision making.
  • Optimize data models, ensure schema evolution, meta data management and data lineage tracking.
  • Provides technical guidance and support to the feature team, leveraging expertise in Apache Flink, Java/Spring Boot, and Databricks. Facilitates technical discussions and decision-making processes to drive innovation and efficiency.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, including senior executives, product managers, and engineering teams. Communicates project status, risks, and opportunities effectively to ensure transparency and alignment.
  • Identifies potential risks and develops mitigation strategies to ensure project success. Proactively address challenges and roadblocks, facilitating problem-solving and decision-making processes.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team. Encourages the adoption of best practices, new technologies, and methodologies to enhance the development process and deliver high-quality solutions.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on Data Engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience.
  • Strong experience overseeing end to end lifecycle of data pipelines from source to consumption.
  • Advanced knowledge of the product development life cycle, design, and data analytics
  • Strong understanding of Apache Flink, Java/Spring Boot, and Databricks, with hands-on experience in full stack development. Ability to provide technical guidance and support to engineering teams.
  • Proven experience with data analytics using various tools: SQL, Python etc.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, or Kanban.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration and driving results. Experience in resource allocation and team management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and stakeholder management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, evaluate options, and implement solutions. Experience in risk management and mitigation strategies.
  • Ability to develop and execute strategic plans, aligning technical initiatives with business objectives. Experience in roadmap development and prioritization.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, adapting to changing priorities and requirements. Willingness to learn and adopt new technologies and methodologies.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Possession of advanced certifications related to Apache Flink, Java/Spring Boot, Databricks, or cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) that demonstrate a deep understanding and expertise in these technologies.
  • Previous experience working in the financial services industry, particularly in payments or data platforms, which provides insight into industry-specific challenges and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in leading change management initiatives, including the ability to drive organizational transformation and adoption of new technologies and processes. Familiarity with change management frameworks and best practices.
