As a Vice President in M&A, you will be a key player in strategy development and end-to-end execution for mid-cap clients, with a particular focus on sell-side mandates. As a Vice President in M&A within our Australia business, you will cultivate and manage senior relationships with clients across all sectors of the Australian economy. You will lead execution on M&A transactions, with a particular emphasis on originating and delivering sell-side mandates for mid-cap clients. You will partner closely with product and sector teams across the firm to deliver end-to-end advice and flawless execution.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary day-to-day client point of contact and lead banker on live transactions, with a focus on sell-side mandates for mid-cap clients across Australia and New Zealand,
  • Drive origination by developing targeted pitches for mid-cap opportunities, including valuation, positioning, buyer universe development (domestic, regional, and global strategics and sponsors), and process design.
  • Review, direct, and elevate the analytic work of Analysts and Associates to progress marketing and execution workstreams, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and on-time delivery.
  • Refine and tailor marketing materials (e.g., pitchbooks, information memoranda, management presentations, process letters, Q&A trackers) to maximise client impact and achieve process objectives.
  • Oversee the creation and quality of financial models and valuation analyses (DCF, trading and transaction comparables, LBO, merger models), ensuring assumptions are robust and market-aligned.
  • Lead comprehensive process management for sell-side transactions: timeline planning, due diligence coordination, data room management, buyer outreach, and competitive tension strategies to optimise outcomes.
  • Identify, assess, and manage deal risks-including execution risk, valuation risk, counterparty risk, regulatory approvals, and reputational considerations-escalating and mitigating as appropriate.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders (sector/product partners, ECM/DCM, leveraged finance, ratings advisory, syndicate, risk, legal, compliance) and external advisors (legal counsel, tax advisors, accountants, independent experts) to deliver cohesive execution.
  • Lead client negotiations, diligence Q&A processes, and management presentations; prepare senior executives for buyer interactions and support board communication where applicable.
  • Contribute to team development by coaching junior bankers on technical skills, process discipline, and best-practice craftsmanship in models and materials.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills

  • Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 6 years experience in an investment banking front office role
  • Experience in training junior bankers
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with specific ability to communicate concepts and ideas concisely and defend their validity
  • Very strong quantitative and analytical skills (including Excel modelling and valuation work)
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines, and have the aptitude to synthesize large amounts of information and to develop innovative solutions
  • Adaptability, able to manage projects independently and be ready to assume a high level of responsibility as a member of a team
  • Ability to comfortably interact with clients in a professional and mature manner
  • Excellent understanding of financial, legal and reputational risks facing large integrated investment banks in today's environment
