As a Vice President in the China Consumer team, you will support comprehensive research efforts to analyze market trends, consumer behavior, and industry dynamics.
You will collaborate with a talented team to provide actionable insights that support investment strategies and decision‑making. Your expertise will be important in understanding the evolving landscape of China's consumer sector and delivering impactful research to our clients.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct in‑depth equity research on China's consumer sector, including company and industry analyses.
- Build, maintain, and enhance financial models to forecast industry trends and company performance; perform valuation analyses and scenario testing.
- Produce high‑quality research reports, notes, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Partner with sales and trading to provide timely market insights and support client engagement with data‑driven recommendations.
- Engage with industry experts, company management, and clients to gather information and validate research findings; participate in management and expert calls.
- Monitor and analyze macroeconomic factors, regulatory developments, and market data affecting the consumer sector in China; incorporate insights into models and publications.
- Present research findings to clients and senior stakeholders, articulating key drivers, risks, and valuation implications; provide clear and concise takeaways.
- Contribute to thought leadership initiatives and thematic projects that enhance the team's profile in equity research; co‑author primers and thematic reports.
- Help develop and coach junior analysts and associates by reviewing models, notes, and data outputs; foster high standards and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and firm policies across the research production process and client interactions.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- 5-8 years of experience in equity research or a related field, ideally with coverage of the consumer sector in Asia/China.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high‑quality research outputs and actionable insights under tight timelines; meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in financial modeling and valuation techniques (e.g., DCF, comparables, sensitivity analyses).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to varied audiences.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across teams and mentor junior colleagues on core tasks and best practices.
- Deep understanding of China's consumer market structure, key subsectors, and industry dynamics; familiarity with data sources and channel checks.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and industry contacts in a professional manner.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related field; advanced degree a plus but not required for the role.
- Working knowledge of regulatory requirements affecting equity research activities and publication standards; commitment to compliance.

- Experience in a global financial institution or investment firm, with exposure to cross‑border client engagements and multi‑asset collaboration.

- Advanced degree in finance, economics, or a related field; professional certifications such as CFA or equivalent are advantages.
- Prior experience contributing to thought leadership, conference materials, or public‑facing research; strong presentation skills preferred.
- Established or developing network within China's consumer industry; ability to adapt to changing market conditions and regulatory environments.
