Job summary
As an Associate I Loan Closer in the Documentation and Closing group, you will independently manage and drive the closing process for a portfolio of complex commercial loans. You will coordinate due diligence, documentation, and closing deliverables while communicating clearly with deal teams, clients, and legal counsel. You will apply strong judgment to identify and escalate risks, ensure documentation aligns to policy requirements, and support timely execution. You will maintain accurate tracking and records across systems to enable high-quality, consistent outcomes.
Job responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end loan closing process for complex commercial and construction financings, from due diligence through closing and post-closing follow-up
- Review and validate real estate due diligence items, including title, survey, organizational/formation documents, and insurance documentation
- Draft, review, and coordinate commercial loan documentation and closing checklists in partnership with internal teams and external legal counsel
- Identify documentation or due diligence gaps, assess risk, and drive resolution in a timely, controlled manner
- Navigate single-lender and multi-lender structures, coordinating inputs and timelines across parties
- Track milestones, approvals, conditions, and deliverables in a loan closing database and related systems
- Communicate status, risks, and next steps clearly to stakeholders, maintaining professionalism in time-sensitive situations
- Review and approve work completed by other closers, providing feedback to support quality and consistency
- Provide day-to-day support to junior closers and contribute to training and knowledge sharing
- Contribute to special projects and participate in procedure reviews and continuous improvement efforts
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience closing commercial real estate loans, including construction and term loan structures
- Demonstrated experience supporting letters of credit, including bond-enhanced/direct pay letters of credit
- Strong knowledge of commercial real estate and loan documentation, collateral requirements, and closing controls
- Proven ability to review and interpret title, survey, entity documentation, and other core real estate due diligence items
- Experience coordinating closings involving multiple lenders and multiple stakeholders
- Strong risk identification skills, including knowing when and how to escalate issues appropriately
- Excellent time management and organization skills, with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including stakeholder management in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
