Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Intuitive Surgical is seeking an experienced real estate and workplace services executive to lead our Global (REWS) function. The VP of REWS will oversee all aspects of our global real estate strategy and operations, including site development, design, construction, property management, workplace services, site operations, and environment, safety, health, and security.  This role currently supports 3.2M sq. ft of office & R&D, manufacturing & training space.

This role will be a key interface with internal business partners and external contract resources as it relates to the employee workplace, manufacturing, Office/R&D, and training environments. The VP, REWS is instrumental in driving corporate productivity and culture by ensuring exceptional employee services and workplace environments.

This position will liaise with company leadership to establish real estate solutions that best address the company business needs, meet financial goals and objectives, and help to attract and retain the best talent.

The position will report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California.

The successful candidate for this role will bring leadership, management, and technical competencies to set objectives, lead the team forward and together deliver results.

POSITION SUMMARY and SCOPE:

The VP of Global Workplace Services’ (REWS) will lead Intuitive’s worldwide real estate and workplace services organization, overseeing strategy, operations, and service delivery across a diverse and growing global footprint.  Intuitive’s global real estate portfolio supports more than 17,000 colleagues worldwide.

Key Functional Areas of Responsibility

Responsible for the full Real Estate & Workplace Services portfolio, including:

  • Strategic real estate planning and transactions
  • Design and construction of capital projects
  • Capacity and space planning
  • Facilities operations and management
  • Environment, health, safety, and security
  • Employee Services i.e., food services
  • Energy management and sustainability

Site Types Supported

This role oversees real estate that supports all major business functions, including:

  • Commercial Sales
  • Customer Service
  • Training and Education Centers
  • Logistics and Distribution
  • Manufacturing
  • Engineering and R&D
  • Equipment‑intensive research and development labs
  • Critical manufacturing environments
  • Clinical clean rooms
  • Surgeon training rooms
  • Additional technical and operational support areas

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • 15 years of demonstrated leadership of global and regional teams managing real estate assets and workplace resources.
  • Proven track record of embedding the voice of the customer into all programs, processes, and strategic initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to expand facilities, infrastructure and workplace services in alignment with business growth, ensuring scalability without compromising efficiency, quality or financial stewardship.
  • Minimum of 10 years directly leading global corporate real estate and operations functions including high level of transactional engagement, authority, and responsibility. Greenfield development a plus.
  • Extensive experience creating and managing annual capital and expense budgets of $300M or larger.
  • Familiarity with the use and implementation of enterprise wide CAFM software, Space Planning and Occupancy Sensing systems and tools, Integrated Facilities Management Systems, Security Access management systems, Emergency Mass Notification Software, Global Security Operations Center (GSOC) and Environmental Operations Center (EOC), Goal tracking software, Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, Smart Sheets, and Power Point.
  • Excellent communications skills; ability to work effectively at all levels within a global matrixed organization.
  • Experience working and traveling domestically and internationally to Mexico, EMEA, and APAC.
  • Experience managing environmental, health, safety, and security programs globally, including global access programs, executive services, and business continuity programs. 
  • Well networked globally with consultants, service providers, and contractors used in different regions around the world for benchmarking, best practices, etc.

EDUCATION TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

  • BA/BS and master’s in business administration, finance or technical field preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of directly related experience managing a global real estate and facilities portfolio of at least 2M sq. ft. with experience in high growth company in Medical Technology, Bio-Med, Semiconductor, Data Center or other technology manufacturing environments.
  • Member of industry associations such as Member of IFMA (International Facilities Management Association) or CoreNet Global (A Global Association for Corporate Real Estate).
  • Certifications in real estate and facilities management from IFMA, CoreNet (MCR, SCR) preferred.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target compensation ranges are listed.
